We create integrated technological solutions to improve the safety and efficiency of shipping, navigation, and ship operations:

Team of Wartsila marine engineering simulators is looking for mathematical modeler. You can become part of a team which works on a market leader product (45% market share) that imitates marine engineering functionality for vessels.

This permanent position is in Belgrade, Serbia.

 

Main responsibilities:

  • Develop from the scratch for dynamic math models of vessel equipment and systems.
  • Create front-end side of simulators.
  • Compile technical documentation for these models.
  • Maintain existing models.
  • Take a part in agile activities.

To be successful in this position, we expect you to:

  • Bs or MS in physics, applied math, engineering or similar field.
  • Practical experience in imitation modelling of physical systems.
  • Basic knowledge of numerical methods for solving PDE and DAE.
  • Basic knowledge of OOP approach or any OOP language.
  • Be able to formulate a problem correctly and plan ways to solve it.
  • English intermediate or higher.
  • Be agile.

We will be amazed if you have (but not mandatory):

  • Be familiar with Open Modelica or any Modelica-based language.
  • Be able to quickly master new tools.
  • Have a background in marine engineering.

 

Practical experience in imitation modelling:

  • Hydraulics (gravity flow, pumping through pipeline, pump characteristics, pipeline elements’ resistance, Bernoulli equation, two-phase media flow (liquid + gas)).
  • Heat Transfer (heat capacity of materials – solid, liquids, gases; heat exchange between various media; temperature transfer & temperature resistance of materials).
  • Thermodynamics (ideal gas laws; real gas specifics; main thermodynamics parameters and characteristics, its interdependencies; thermodynamics laws; phase transitions).
  • Mechanics (kinematics and dynamics of rigid body, rotational dynamics equations; mechanical energy parameters and equations, mechanical energy transitions, inertia characteristics; simple mechanisms).
  • Automation and regulation (main principals and parameters; governors (controllers) – main types and work principals; controlled system parameters and dynamic).
