Your role and responsibilities
As a Field Service Technician (2-Stroke), you will carry out service work on board vessels and at customer sites according to the work plan. You will perform troubleshooting and maintenance on 2-stroke engines and related equipment, covering mechanical, electrical, and basic automation systems. You will also support customers during repair activities and assist with the installation and commissioning of Wärtsilä service products.
In this role, you will work in an international environment and travel frequently across Europe and worldwide. Travel is a key part of the job, accounting for approximately 80% of your working time (up to 200 days per year). We are looking for candidates who enjoy hands-on work in the field, are flexible, and are ready to take on new challenges.
As a Field Service Technician (2-Stroke) you will focus on these responsibilities:
- Execute mechanical service work on vessels equipped with Wärtsilä, Sulzer, and WinGD 2-stroke engines.
- Install Wärtsilä service products, including modernization and retrofit solutions for 2-stroke engines.
- Carry out mechanical, electrical, and automation tasks on engines and related systems.
- Perform technical assessments, pre-inspections, and commissioning of installations in line with Wärtsilä guidelines.
- Ensure high customer satisfaction through professional interaction and efficient service execution.
- Maintain active communication with Field Service and Technical Service back-office teams during operations.
- Prepare and submit reports on work progress, updates, and daily activities in accordance with Wärtsilä standards.
- Complete final service reports, including time and expense documentation, in line with company policies.
- Proactively identify opportunities and promote Wärtsilä solutions and services to customers.
To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:
- Technical degree or diploma in Engineering or a related field is an advantage.
- Solid understanding of 2-stroke engine operation and maintenance.
- Hands-on service experience on mechanical, electrical, and auxiliary systems, preferably with Wärtsilä, Sulzer, or WinGD 2-stroke engines.
- Experience with Wärtsilä products and solutions is considered a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, drawings, and schematics (mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical).
- Troubleshooting skills in mechanical and electrical systems, including engines and auxiliary equipment.
- Good reporting skills, with the ability to prepare clear and accurate service reports.
- Basic proficiency in MS Office and reporting tools.
- Fluency in Spanish and English, both written and spoken.
- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in an international and team-oriented environment.
- Willingness to travel extensively and work on assignments worldwide.
- Motivation to continuously learn and develop technical skills related to Wärtsilä engines and retrofit solutions.
