R&D Test Engineer
We are now looking for a
R&D Test Engineer
to join our team working for a better future.
The position is permanent and the preferred location is in Bermeo, Spain.
What you will be doing
The R&D Test Engineer is responsible for planning, preparing, and executing engine test campaigns, ensuring accurate data collection and safe operation of advanced engine platforms. This role involves close collaboration with plant personnel, instrumentation and automation teams, and external experts to guarantee that engine and all systems are ready for testing and that tests are completed efficiently and without incidents. The R&D Test Engineer also plays a key role in troubleshooting technical issues, implementing solutions, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
As R&D Test Engineer your work will focus on these responsibilities:
- Planning, preparation and execution of engine tests under various load and running conditions ensuring compliance with guidelines and test protocols.
- Reporting and Documentation of test results. Prepare technical reports for internal stakeholders.
- Monitoring and analysis of test data, identifying anomalies and proposing corrective actions.
- Collaboration and coordination with plant teams, I&M (Instrumentation & Measurement) and RDE experts to secure resources, ensure readiness of systems, equipment and the engines and a successful execution of the tests.
- Technical issue management, operational decision-making.
- Lead and supervise the mechanic-operator team, assigning tasks and ensuring proper execution during tests and mechanical activities. Keep them trained and skilled on the engine setup and related technologies as well as the test specifics and methodologies.
- Ensure the safety of all personnel working around the engine, including mechanics and operators, by enforcing safety protocols and proactively identifying and overcoming risks.
- Participate in regular progress meetings with the Manager Engine Testing (MET) to review test requirements, deal with technical matters, report status and align on priorities.
- Contribute to innovation and process improvement in engine testing methodologies.
Position Objectives:
Ensure the successful execution of engine test campaigns with high reliability and safety through coordinated teamwork.
Detect and resolve technical issues during installation and operation.
Guarantee system reliability, safety, and efficiency.
Contribute to innovative solutions and support continuous improvement in testing processes and platforms.
Document test results and report to stakeholders.
Maintain close alignment with the MET and contribute to the overall success of the testing program
To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:
A Test Engineer is a technically skilled professional who combines mechanical and electrical expertise with strong analytical capabilities. The role demands initiative, adaptability and a commitment to operational excellence, as well as the ability to work under pressure in complex testing environments.
Technical and Operational Skills:
Degree in electronic/automation, mechanical, energy, or industrial engineering, with experience in internal combustion engines.
Strong ability to plan, organize, and coordinate activities in an industrial environment.
Capability to interpret and validate electrical, hydraulic, and automation diagrams.
Capacity to make sound technical decisions under pressure, resolving issues promptly to keep projects on schedule.
Proficiency in data acquisition and analysis tools.
Familiarity with industrial safety standards and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
Personal and Organizational Attributes:
Proactive and autonomous, capable of making technical decisions in real time.
Rigorous and safety-conscious, especially in high-pressure hydrogen environments.
Team-oriented, with proven ability to work closely with plant and I&M teams, on one side, and with RDE experts, on the other.
Clear communicator, fluent in Spanish and English.
Adaptable, comfortable in dynamic environments with emerging technologies.
Respectful of hierarchy and procedures, while showing initiative to improve processes.
Desirable Qualifications:
Experience in R&D or laboratory testing environments.
Knowledge of AI applied to engine diagnostics and optimization.
Experience in international or cross-functional teams.
