We're looking for a qualified professional to lead engine maintenance work onboard vessels. This role requires an individual who can work directly with the team at the engine, taking full ownership of the job from start to finish. Each assignment typically lasts 3-5 weeks, during which teams rotate from one job to another. Interaction with customers will be confined to the scope of the specific job, with no long-term account management or client relationship responsibilities involved.

The preferred location for this position is in Budaörs, Hungary.

Your role and responsibilities

As a Superintendent Service Engineer, you will focus on these responsibilities:

  • Lead field service engine maintenance jobs - onboard vessels (mainly) or power plants; primarily focusing on daily activity planning, manage resources, and schedule coordination to meet job-specific customer requirements.
  • Work hands-on with your team at the engine. Though this is a leadership role, it also involves direct engagement in maintenance tasks.
  • Conduct on-site checks to evaluate team capabilities, ensuring all operations align with job plans and customer expectations.
  • Provide expert technical guidance to field service teams, ensuring adherence to quality standards and safe working practices.
  • Mentor and support your team, helping them grow their skills through real-world experience.
  • Communicate with our global service network, primarily coordinating with Wärtsilä employees in other countries rather than external customers.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by capturing lessons learned and sharing feedback from the field.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, including completing necessary reporting and documentation related to job activities.

 Requirements for the Position:

  • Relevant engineering education or technical background.
  • Proven Mechanical Engineer experience in field service on Wärtsilä Diesel Engines or similar Medium bore applications as a Lead Man.
  • Mechanical technical experience on Wärtsilä Power Plants or similar applications as a Lead Man.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
  • Technical proficiency and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Proficient in English and native or advanced level of Hungarian.
  • Willingness to travel worldwide approximately 80% of the time.

What You Can Expect:

  • Business Impact: Make a significant contribution to the performance of small to mid-sized field service projects by coordinating and supervising activities. Your efforts will have a project-wide impact, influencing both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and Experience: Leverage your sound knowledge of field service practices and processes, along with proficient technical expertise in relevant products and service areas. Your skills will be crucial in maintaining high standards and delivering exceptional results.
  • Innovation and Change: Utilize established guidelines and your professional knowledge to resolve operational issues effectively. You'll have the opportunity to identify, develop, and support modifications to current field service systems, tools, and processes, providing valuable market and operational insights.
