Nautical Routing Specialist

We are now looking for a Nautical Routing Specialist to join our team of experts, working for a better future. 
 

The preferred location for the position is in Cabuyao, Philippines, Mumbai, India or Singapore
 

This position involves close collaboration with colleagues in Europe to ensure seamless 24/7 global coverage.  
 

What you will be doing 
As a Nautical Routing Specialist, you will join the dynamic and challenging field of marine weather routing and voyage planning. In this position, you will act as a trusted advisor to commercial vessel operators, Captains and crew offering guidance on safe and optimal routing in terms of weather, navigational safety and regulations. In this role you will support Wärtsilä’s efforts to accelerate the transition towards marine decarbonization.  

 

As Nautical Routing Specialist, your work will focus on these responsibilities: 

  • Provide consultancy on weather-optimized routes for ship navigation together with meteorologists. 
  • Analyse weather data and maritime conditions to ensure safe passage. 
  • Assess and communicate the risks impacting voyage plans considering changing boundary conditions along the route such as weather, vessel performance and voyage instructions.  
  • Monitor all our clients' vessels for deviations or events out of the ordinary. 
  • Stay updated with the latest maritime regulations and weather forecasting technologies.   
  • In cooperation with the forecasters, create and update safe and feasible routes both in way of nautical safety and security as well as weather and general fuel efficiency. 
  • Conduct risk assessments and provide recommendations for route adjustments. 
  • Ensure effective communication with different stakeholders, including customers onshore and onboard crew.   
  • Provide feedback and input to our internal Product team to support the ongoing development and enhancement of our products.  

 

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have: 

  • STCW II/2 Unlimited Seagoing Certificate – Master Mariner 
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in route planning on international voyages. 
  • Experience in weather routing and/or weather forecasting is desired.  
  • Knowledge of oceanographic conditions that influence marine meteorology.  
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken, in English. 
  • Ability to work under pressure. 
  • Team player who values collaboration and thrives in a diverse, international team environment. 
  • Willingness to work on a shift rotation (including nights, weekends and public holidays) as part of the European-Asian rotation team.
