Business Development Manager, Marine

Position location is flexible within Canada, may also include Vancouver, Victoria , Halifax, Ottawa, Montreal.

 

 

Position Description:

  • Reporting directly to the General Manager Marine Sales USA & Canada, the Business Development Manager (Marine)’s primary focus will be to effectively establish and execute a sales strategy to secure opportunities within the Marine sector to include but not limited to shipyards, designers, owners and operators, procurement teams, within the Canadian Government and commercial marine industry

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage account plans/profiles and actively participate in account strategy sessions.
  • Strong focus on uncovering customer needs and communicating those needs across the organisation.
  • Frequent visits to customers in conjunction with Wartsila vessel segment and technology experts, market Wartsila current and emerging technologies in the Canadian Government and commercial marine market
  • Lead and manage (often virtual) project sales teams within the company to build compelling value propositions based on customer needs.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions of contracts
  • Lead the development of Request for Proposal responses for Government and commercial opportunities
  • Develop Canadian Industrial Technology Benefits strategies

 

Education & Experience:

  • Ideally the Business Development Manager Marine should have completed a BSc or MSc in Engineering, MBA and have at least 10 years of relevant Marine industry and/or Government service within the Marine sector
  • Ideally this individual is relevant in the Canadian Government marine industry and possesses an updated contact list of influencers and decision makers and knowledge of navigating complex government channels
  • Canadian Government contracting and Industrial Offset program knowledge and experience.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Marine industry, contractual environment, understanding customer’s operations and financials, understanding the tradeoffs in CAPEX, OPEX and life cycle approach

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Visionary who can also align the organization to work towards vision
  • Strong sales, contract negotiations, planning and exceptional presentation skills and experience in selling high value – long term projects on a value and or consultative basis
  • Excellent communication skills (exercises active listening, builds trust in networks and relationships and gives feedback in constructive manner), including the ability to understand and communicate technical concepts.
  • Eager and competent to engage in Chief Executive-level discussions
  • Leadership and management capabilities and experience. While this position will not have direct reports, the role will successfully lead teams through exceptional communication, influencing and recognition skills to create a sense of team, cohesiveness, buy-in and commitment. Experience leading (virtual) teams is considered a major asset to being successful in this role.

  • Project management skills
  • Team player attitude (internally and externally)
  • Willingness to travel and work in a global team of professionals
  • Language: Fluent written and spoken English, second language is a plus
