Wartsila Caribbean, Inc. is looking for a Maintenance Supervisor Engineer to join its dynamic, fast-paced power plant maintenance team in St Thomas, US Virgin Islands.


What will you be doing

As a Maintenance Supervisor Engineer, you will be responsible for the economical and safe operations and maintenance of the power plant during the designated shift. You will ensure compliance with all safety regulations including isolation, lock out and tag out.


The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and 10 years of power plant operations/maintenance experience.


As a Maintenance Supervisor Engineer, you will focus on these responsibilities:

  • Execution of the Asset Management program based on the Asset Management principles.
  • Planning and Execution for all activities relating to the daily operations at the power plant inclusive of planning and implementation of the best practices for asset management with the US Virgin Island Water and Power Authority.
  • Planning and execution for the proactive maintenance activities for the engines and auxiliary equipment in order to maintain them within design operating parameters and safe conditions, including of cleanliness.
  • Execute and implement the best practices from both the US Virgin Island Water and Power Authority and Wartsila for working Operation and Maintenance routines at the plant in order to identify and seek to areas to improve the power generation process to ensure that the engines are always operating and delivering power as per their original engineering specifications.
  • Supervision of the operation of unique system for thermal oxidation installed at the site to ensure that emissions to the atmosphere are 24/7/365 in compliance with EPA limits and requirements.
  • Supervision and execution of the required maintenance (Predictive, Preventive or Corrective) of the unique system for thermal oxidation installed at the site to ensure that emissions to the atmosphere are 24/7/365 in compliance with EPA limits and requirements
  • Planning and execution of maintenance for specialized engine tool, measurement, cutting and hand tools as per OEM Technical Bulletins and Service letters.
  • Monitoring and Execution of the preventive maintenance program by using the CMMS (MAXIMO Software) as well as calculation and tracking of the maintenance KPI.
  • Unscheduled Outage planning, coordination, execution and reporting in direct coordination with the Operation and Maintenance team from the US Virgin Island Water and Power Authority
  • Supervision of the reconditioning activities for engine components, including overhaul of engine components and turbo compressor components as well as overhaul activities for turbo compressors.
  • Provide training for the US Virgin Island Water and Power Authority Operations personnel about how to properly track and manage temporary and permanent changes to the systems and equipment of the power plant, using engineering tools such as the SolidWorks and AutoCAD software.
  • Provide on-the-job training to the local operational staff.
  • Participating on every engineering training for Wartsila Personnel as required or designated.
  • Responsible for re-enforce the best practices of Wartsila regarding plant safety and to overview compliance with the US Virgin Island Water and Power Authority safety policy
  • Prepare daily reports, weekly maintenance plans and Warehouse management reports as instructed by the plant manager as per the Operations and Maintenance Agreement between the US Virgin Island Water and Power Authority and Wartsila by using the best practices of asset management
  • Responsible to comply with all safety regulations including isolation, lock out and tag out.
  • Responsible for inventory management, cycle counting, material and spare parts reception as well as issuance for maintenance purposes.
  • First response in case a total blackout under US Virgin Island Water and Power Authority requests;
  • Assist the Wartsila team with any other tasks that might be required not necessarily related to the engine maintenance, such as picking up shipments, tools and consumables shopping, office supplies shopping and picking up permanent and temporary team members to places like hotel, airport, etc.


To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, or a related field of study
  • 5 – 10 years previous experience with mechanical operations for power plant
