We are now looking for a Weather Routing Specialist to join our team of experts, working for a better future. 

The preferred location for the position is in Copenhagen, Denmark but also Hamburg, Germany or Mandra and Moschato, Greece are possible locations. 

This position is based in Northern Europe and involves close collaboration with colleagues in Asia to ensure seamless global coverage.  

What you will be doing 
As a Weather Routing Specialist, you will join the dynamic and challenging field of marine weather routing and voyage planning. In this position, you will act as a trusted advisor to commercial vessel operators, Captains and crew offering guidance on safe and optimal weather routing. In this role you will support Wärtsilä’s efforts to accelerate the transition towards marine decarbonization.  

As Weather Routing Specialist, your work will focus on these responsibilities: 

• Combine your knowledge and critical thinking with our algorithm-driven weather routing technology to provide guidance to our customers on safe vessel routing.  
• Assess and communicate the risks impacting voyage plans considering changing boundary conditions along the route such as weather, vessel performance and voyage instructions.  
• Create the weather forecast narrative together with a routing strategy from various weather forecasts and data sources for different ocean regions. Brief both the internal routing teams and customer accordingly.  
• Ensure effective communication with different stakeholders, including customers onshore and onboard crew.   
• Provide feedback and input to our internal Product team to support the ongoing development and enhancement of our products.  

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have: 

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Meteorology or equivalent discipline (e.g. Physics, Geo-Earth Sciences, Marine Sciences…). 
• Experience in weather routing and/or weather forecasting is desired.  
• Knowledge of oceanographic conditions that influence marine meteorology.  
• Ability to understand numerical weather prediction models output and interpret observations.  
• Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken, in English. 
• Ability to work under pressure. 
• Team player who values collaboration and thrives in a diverse, international team environment.
