Senior Project Engineer

Wärtsilä Valmarine AS, located in Drammen, employs approximately 50 dedicated professionals. Our product:
Our alarm and control systems are designed to control, monitor, and analyze vessel devices and processes. The system comprises both software and hardware components, enabling data collection from field equipment both on-board and remotely. This capability allows our customers to manage energy savings, such as fuel consumption, in power plants and air conditioning systems.

 

We are now looking for a Senior Project Engineer – Marine Automation.

 

The location for the position is in Drammen, Norway.

 

Tasks and responsibilities:

 

  • Clarify and manage shipyard requirements, and translating these into software and hardware design
  • Design, develop, test and document software functions both internally and in collaboration with the yard.
  • Preparing and managing technical information and documentation
  • Assist the project team in scope planning and estimating remaining work.
  • Assist the Project Manager with project management tasks (i.e. status reporting) when requested/needed.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of systems
  • Facilitate communication between stakeholders to ensure alignment on project goals
  • Contribute to the improvement of working processes, documentation, and tools.


Skills:

 

  • Good knowledge of Machinery, HVAC, ESD, PMS, and other systems onboard a ship
  • Experience with software design and software programming (PLC and/ or C++)
  • Experience with technical troubleshooting on computer and electronic equipment’s
  • Experience with communication interfaces (serial and TCP/IP e.g. Modbus, IEC61850, NMEA, MQTT…)
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills in both English and Norwegian

 

Requirements:

 

  • BSc or MSc in Engineering (Automation, Cybernetics or similar fields)
  • 5+ years of experience in maritime automation and power systems
  • A good understanding of control systems, hardware and application software
  • Positive attitude and strong team spirit, contributing effectively towards common project goals. 
  • Ability to thrive under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • You must be able to obtain security clearance according to National Security Authority regulations
