(Sr) Design Engineer Hydrodynamics

We are now looking for a 


(Sr) Design Engineer (Hydrodynamics) 


to join our engineering team. Working on a more sustainable future through propulsion upgrades of the world’s largest vessels. 

 

The location for the position is in Drunen, the Netherlands. 

 

What will you be doing? 


In this position, you will be responsible for the hydrodynamic design of ship propellers and related energy saving devices. On a typical day, you might be starting with launching a CFD analyses and end the day with a review of the Finite Element calculations with your colleague. The goal is to upgrade the propulsion system in order to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 reduction.   

 

As Design Engineer:

 

  • You are responsible for the design of high-quality propulsion systems. 
  • You communicate with the customer, design offices and research entities concerning engineering, this in cooperation with the Project Manager and/or Sales Manager. 
  • Contribute to improvements of design methods, processes and products. 
  • You occasionally participate in (international) research groups, to gain and gather knowledge. 
  • You attend performance tests at research laboratories regarding to your designs. 
  • You can add extra value in our team if you have a pro-active attitude, solid communication skills and are able to plan, act and deliver in time. 
  • You are interested in travelling for short periods even though most of the meetings are held virtually.

 
Requirements:

 

  • For us to be the best match, we expect you to have understanding in rotating equipment and experience from working with hydrodynamic software such as CFD. 
  • As an ideal candidate you hold a master’s or bachelor’s degree in Maritime Technology, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering or similar. But most important is to be curious and eager to learn.
  • Good knowledge of English language and Dutch would be a plus. 

 
Additional Assets:

 

  • Experience with design of ship propellers.
  • Various fluid dynamics theories and their theoretical models, including CFD.
  • Finite element analyses and fatigue stress assessment.
  • Hydrodynamic model test techniques, the setup and way measurements are processed.
  • Knowledge of ship noise and vibrations.
  • Production methods in relation to propeller design and cost.
  • Material properties, corrosion and corrosion fatigue behaviour in sea water.
  • In-depth knowledge of requirements from classification societies, ISO484, ISO6954, ISO19019 and other standards.

As a Design Engineer, you will be working in close cooperation with other departments of our Project Group such as Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation and Project Management. You will work directly with our team of 8 hydrodynamic specialists, who report to the Manager Hydrodynamic Design.
