Expert, Hydrodynamics

 

We are looking for an Expert, Hydrodynamics to join our combined, Commercial and R&D, CFD teams. The position offers for the right candidate a real opportunity of continuous learning and growing through the fascinating field of numerical simulations in marine applications.

 

The preferred location for the position is at Wärtsilä Netherlands, Marine Power, Drunen with the opportunity to work hybrid.  The position is permanent.

 

What will you be doing?

  • Perform complex hydrodynamic analyses of propulsors, ships and other sea-state related engineering problems.
  • Work independently or collaborate with and support senior staff in performing projects related to propulsion performance and related research activities.
  • Work on developing propulsion solutions using in-house and commercial software packages.
  • Solving broad range of hydrodynamic problems is part of your daily work.
  • Collaborate with partners in industry and academia to support/conduct joint-research projects.
  • Meet with customers, make business presentations of commercial projects.
  • Report preparation, proposal development and participation in technical discussions.

 

You will shine in this role when you have:

  • MSc/Ph.D. in Maritime/Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, or related studies.
  • Background with hydrodynamics, multi-phase flows, and some knowledge on turbulence, acoustics, and vibrations.
  • Experience in computational fluid dynamics (CFD), i.e., simulating ship manoeuvring, sailing conditions in waves. 
  • Experience with STAR-CCM+/CFD tools, NX/CAD tools and other Simcenter software.
  • Programming skills with C/C++, Fortran, Python, and java-scripting.
  • Experience with Unix/Linux computer-cluster environment.
  • Excellent English communication, strong writing, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work both independently on commercial and R&D developmental programs as well as in a team environment
  • Eager to learn and develop yourself is a must to fit in the team
  • You are eligible to work in Netherlands and ideally, have a few years of experience in naval/maritime industry

 

Nice to have:

  • Background in various numerical fluid solving techniques, machine learning, and optimization algorithms.
  • Experience in development of numerical algorithms for large-scale computational and data analysis software on parallel computing platforms.
  • Experience with Virtual Reality post-processing techniques, coupling between CFD and structural FEM models, and fluid system simulations, like Amesim.
  • Experience in writing proposals.
