Lead Engineer Product Development
For our Product Platform Propulsion Control Systems (PCS) we are looking for a
Lead Engineer Product Development
to join our PCS R&D team in Drunen (The Netherlands). The position is permanent and you will find yourself in the heart of the design and development of our PCS portfolio for our worldwide customers.
What you will be doing
As a Lead Engineer, you are responsible to initiate and drive product development projects for our PCS Platform, addressing technical and project management content as well as requirement management. This Product Platform area covers the control systems for our controllable pitch propellers, gearboxes, steerable thrusters, transverse thrusters as well as waterjets and rudders.
In this position you will be part of our R&D PCS team located in the Netherlands (Drunen). This team is responsible for technology development, concept design, detailed design, validation & industrialisation that leads the way in PCS product portfolio innovations. You will work in close cooperation with global customers, Wärtsilä sales, sourcing, engineering as well as external manufacturing partners and suppliers.
As a Lead Engineer, your work will focus on these responsibilities:
- You lead your own development project(s) for continuous improvement of the current product portfolio or new concepts based on client or market intelligence and in accordance with classification guidelines.
- You assist the current team by managing the project planning of all running development projects according to our gate model.
- You hold the design assurance responsibility.
- You set priorities in tasks and activities for your project team members and external parties.
- Where needed you publish and present your findings in order to confirm Wärtsilä expertise.
- Transfer your knowledge and experience to the next generation.
To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:
- You hold a Bachelor or Master Degree in Electrical / Marine engineering or similar.
- Minimum of 5 to 8 years of experience in comparable function.
- Experience in leading development projects and project teams, planning and budgeting in an international matrix Research and Development organisation.
- Knowledge of the maritime industry or system integration is preferred.
- You are a strong communicator with good organizational and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication skills in Dutch and English both oral and written.
