Project Purchaser

Would you like to be involved in modification and retrofit projects that contribute in more sustainable vessel performance? Are you able to take the lead in procurement when products are non-standard, needs special certifications and have a short delivery time? Do you manage to deliver those products in time, with high quality and against competing prices? Than this might be the position for you.

 

As a Project Buyer you will be part of our Project Service / Delivery project teams which takes care of all modification, maintenance or repair projects to ship propulsion systems. The projects can vary in value between €20,000 to €20 million and are carried out all over the world. We execute a wide diversity of projects concerning the engineering, assembly, supply and installation and commissioning of systems on board of the vessels of our customers.

 

In this position you will be responsible for procurement of specialized, non-standard products. Due to your effort and pro-active behaviour, suppliers will deliver on time, with good quality against competitive costs for our projects. You are part of multiple project teams (which are led by project managers) at the time and you support the teams by coordinating all related purchasing activities. The project procurement coordinator reports directly to the Project Support group manager.

 

Due to our worldwide supplier base you will be in contact with people from different nationalities, languages and cultures. This means that you must have willingness to travel occasionally. The location for this position is our office in Drunen (The Netherlands).

 

 

What are your main tasks and responsibilities?

  • You plan & execute procurement activities together with the project team with a focus on non-standard products with special requirements.
  • Monitor order statuses, report changes to project management.
  • You create & maintain purchasing Bill of Material (BoM) based on engineering BoM and follow-up and process purchase requisitions.
  • Follow-up and handle purchase order confirmations, purchase ordering and monitoring. Manage purchase invoices from suppliers.
  • Ensure completeness, required quality and on-time delivery of the purchased materials.
  • Provide prices and delivery times to sales for specialized and engineered to order products.
  • You manage claims from/to suppliers and service providers in coordination with stakeholders (project team, sourcing organization).
  • You always aim to increase the competitiveness of Wärtsilä by applying your analytical- and negotiation skills together with a Customer Centric approach.

 

What do we expect from you?

  • You hold a Bachelor degree or higher in Engineering, Logistics, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management or similar.
  • Experience within purchasing, supply chain management and logistics as well as knowledge in ERP systems (Preferably SAP MM, PS, SD modules).
  • You are a pro-active, team player with excellent communication skills, organizing, problem solving and able to come with out of the box solutions.
  • Strong attention to detail with proven ability to be on top of the purchase orders and changing priorities in a fast paced, collaborative environment.
  • Experience in marine products especially propulsion is an advantage.
  • You are always up to date with the ever changing market situation related to our industry.
  • Good command of the Dutch and English languages both orally and in writing.
