In this role, you will be a Mechatronic Service Engineer, a Technical Advisor, trouble shooter and "hands on" expert who solves complex technical problems related to our Propulsion products at the international sites of our clients. Electronics and Controls will be one of the main domains for this role.

The Business Unit Services offers ship owners an optimal service by carrying out troubleshooting and reconditioning/ repair (complete) ship propulsion control systems. The ship's Propulsion system consists of Controllable Pitch Propellers, Gearboxes, Water Jets, Thrusters and Transverse Thrusters and associated operating systems. 

 

Your role and responsibilities

  • You give hands-on technical advice and perform inspections and perform basic and advanced troubleshooting (running tests, fine tuning, adjustments, trimming related to running performance) on all equipment families.
  • Troubleshooting and reconditioning/ repair (complete) ship propulsion control systems. Electronics and controls will be one of your main domains.
  • Independently or in teams with colleagues you perform major/complex repairs, complete overhauls, installation and pre- & commissioning checks and activities.
  • Provide Technical Support to customers and engineers on location and Perform Field Service activities according to the work plan.
  • You are also the contact for the GFS Managers/ the Service Coordinators and the client and responsible for final reporting.
  • You can work independently and are capable to lead own teams and/ or contractors during scheduled maintenance or repair, performing Field Service activities according to the work plan.

 

Requirements for the above role

  • Previous experience in a similar role within the marine industry would be advantageous.
  • Technical knowledge and experience with propulsion equipment or equivalent
  • Good communication skills for interacting with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Good time management and organizational skills with ability to manage a dynamic workload.
  • The ability to work effectively and efficiently independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to travel extensively (worldwide) and stay abroad (+/- 170 days a year abroad.
  • Strong focus on our Health, Safety and Environmental guidelines and customer site procedures.
  • Excellent attention to detail.

 

 

As an ideal candidate, you might also have… 

  • You have technical knowledge and experience with propulsion control systems, electronics and controls.
  • Preferably you are well versed with the industry safety standards and practices.
  • Proficient in both Dutch and English.
  • You are customer-oriented, enterprising, pragmatic, enthusiastic and good leadership skills.
  • You are comfortable working under pressure and are flexible to work overtime and weekend shifts as needed for certain orders/projects.
