System Engineer, Retrofit Controls

Do you feel excited by working in a Technical and worldwide project related organisation within the Maritime environment? Do you feel challenged by (re)designing and improving propulsion systems on board of a wide variety of oceangoing vessels?

 In this position you will be responsible for the (re)design for control systems and actuators on board of the vessels of our customers. We work on a wide range of systems such as Controllable Pitch Propellers (CPP), Water Jets (WJ), Steerable Thrusters (STT) and Transverse Thrusters (TT). Since we provide service to existing vessels, you will be challenged with existing equipment and systems that need to be improved together with that multidisciplinary Engineering teams in close cooperation with Mechanical, Software and Hydrodynamical experts.

As a System Engineer you will be part of our Project Centre which takes care of all modification, maintenance or repair projects to ship propulsion systems. The projects can vary in value between €20,000 to €20 million and are carried out all over the world. We execute a wide diversity of projects concerning the engineering, assembly, supply and installation and commissioning of systems on board of the vessels of our customers.

Due to our worldwide projects, you will be in contact with people from different nationalities, languages and cultures. This means that you must have willingness to travel occasionally. The location for this position is our office in Drunen (the Netherlands).

What are your main tasks and responsibilities?

  • You design control systems for retrofit projects for the full Wärtsilä propulsion portfolio.
  • Preparation of design specifications such as design specifications and IPI's and electrical packages.
  • You are the office support for our field service specialist on hardware assemblies.
  • Besides the Design of the created software, you also work on software testing and simulations.
  • Determining the software settings such as dynamic behaviour, input and output settings, theoretical values ​​etc.
  • You provide customer documentation for commissioning, protocol for factory acceptance tests, Etc.
  • Support the sales department by making technical specifications, customer presentations and estimate the cost price.

 What do we expect from you?

  • You hold a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics combined with some working experience in an industrial, Maritime or Offshore environment.
  • Since you will be working with many different colleagues and stakeholders, you know how to cooperate, work as a team and how to communicate with different nationalities.
  • Any experience with Maritime systems is seen as an advantage.
  • You are familiar with electrical, hydraulic and automatic control system parameters.
  • You are experienced in AutoCAD or EPLAN and PLC software.
  • Good communication skills in English languages both orally and in writing.
