As a Hydraulic Expert in Wartsila Technical Service Propulsion, you will find yourself in the technical heart of the exiting world of the Maritime industry. You provide the highest level of technical support for our propulsion products to our customers and other stakeholders for our installed base. You will be working in an international environment in close cooperation with new build engineering, technical support engineers, warranty, and field services.
You are part of our Technical Services Department (operates from two locations, Drunen in The Netherlands and Rubbestadneset in Norway), which ensures customer satisfaction by providing high quality and on-time technical support enabled by world-class competences in propulsion equipment.
The propulsion products consist of a variety of Steerable- and Transverse Thrusters, Controllable Pitch Propellers, Reduction Gears, Electric Pods, Water Jets, reduction gearboxes, rudders and advanced control systems. You will report to our Manager Expert Services. Location: Drunen, Netherlands
What are your main tasks and responsibilities?
- You provide technical support to internal and external stakeholders.
- You perform Root Cause Analysis and perform expert technical field investigations
- Provide expert-level support in troubleshooting. Define measurements setups and corresponding measurement plans. Perform (if needed) onsite measurements. Analyze the data and report the findings.
- You support customers throughout the lifecycle of their installations. Define maintenance plans. Select new parts for obsolete components. Deliver technical content for service bulletins and manuals. Develop upgrades and solutions adapting to new lifecycle requirements.
- You are responsible for providing in-depth hydraulic conceptual design support including detailed strength calculations, data acquisitions and analysis, new concept review and FMEA.
- Contribute to the Wärtsilä product improvement process.
What do we expect from you?
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, Marine Engineering or equivalent.
- Experience in the design of hydraulic systems with strong analytical and reporting skills.
- Specific knowledge and experience in hydraulic system design, basic knowledge on control principles is a pré.
- Knowledge and experience in the field of system modelling and system simulation.
- A true team player with a proactive approach who can combine theory and practice.
- You are a strong communicator with good organizational and analytical skills. Experience with data processing tools like Matlab and Python are a benefit.
- Customer focused and service minded attitude.
- You are willing to travel globally occasionally (3 or 4 trips a year, 1-7 days), typically Europe area.
