We want to change the course towards an interconnected and cleaner maritime future and are constantly on the lookout for future-oriented talent to join our team and to work towards enabling sustainable
societies through innovation in technology and services - together. Are you ready to jump onboard?

Are you a native (or bilingual) English speaker with a passion for writing high-level technical documentation? Do you want to work with a world-leader in the design and production of solutions for the maritime industry? Then we would like to welcome you to our team!

We are looking for an experienced native English-speaking (technical) writer to strengthen our Technical Information team in Drunen. You know how and where to gather relevant information from various digital sources (for example, PDM and ERP) and from subject matter experts around the world. You can structure technical information logically, describe contexts clearly and unambiguously, and write from a user- and task-oriented perspective.

As a Technical Writer, you will produce and maintain Operation and Maintenance Manuals, used by our customers and the personnel on board their vessel(s), as well as Wärtsilä technical experts, for the operation, maintenance, and repair of our marine propulsion products. Precision, simplicity, clarity and consistency of language and style are critical to a proper understanding of the subject matter. Misinterpretations can have serious safety, property, financial and legal consequences.

What are your main tasks and responsibilities?

  • Stage and publish Operation and Maintenance Manuals for customer delivery.
  • Create and maintain technical content for the Operation and Maintenance Manuals.
  • Work closely with the Technical Illustrators to develop illustrations that will support and enhance the written text.
  • Engage and work with subject matter experts (SMEs) to ensure that topics are appropriately addressed.
  • Copy-edit the technical content of operation and maintenance manuals created by peers, in accordance with our writing standards.
  • Maintain project status, and provide progress updates to internal customers, as requested.

What do we expect from you?

  • You are an experienced (copy)writer or author, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • You can write in explanatory and procedural styles, for native and non-native English-speaking audiences.
  • You can present technical information in a clear and structured manner, with strong attention to detail.
  • You display curiosity for our products, and are resourceful at gathering the information you need to perform your job.
  • You are a team player, with a proactive approach towards colleagues from different departments.
  • Knowledge of Simplified Technical English (STE) and XML authoring is favorable.
  • Interest in creating and editing specialised technical content is a pré.
