Proposal Manager - Americas

Main responsibilities:

 

  • Ability to lead, manage, mentor, and support a team of technical professionals including sales engineers and application engineers with a diverse set of skills and experience
  • Develop and analyze data/KPI metrics via the CRM tool for effective measurement of regional team performance and success, as well as responsibility for establishing action/improvement plans as required
  • Implement, improve and supervise proposal processes and sales processes (proposal development through contracting); support development and training for internal ES&O proposal team, sales, and business development teams to ensure transparency and support when required
  • Manage proposal development activities across the America regional teams of sales engineers
  • Lead proposal development and proposal creation for grid-scaled Energy Storage Systems
  • Create, generate and revise proposal materials and the contents relating to specific customer requirements and unique value points for the integrated solution
  • Create and design a high-level as well as detailed system design drawings, layouts, schematics, project schedule, applications for the requested proposal scope
  • A subject matter expert for Energy Storage in Americas including expertise in the engineering design of energy storage systems, construction management, sizing and cost estimation to support the ES&O Energy Storage System (ESS) solution sales and business development activities
  • Specify appropriate system components, calculate component ratings and quantities, and create detailed bills-of material for material and labor cost estimates
  • Support the Wartsila’s sales and Business Development teams to help define opportunity fit & potential, as well as on proposals and solutions offered to customers. Engage in key customers/accounts activities (RFP/RFI/RFQ, contract reviews, technical solution support, etc.) within the area region, and support and maintain relationships relative to energy storage
  • Interface with vendors to understand the form, fit and function of their products (hardware, software, controls) and services; and determine which products are best suited for an application or project required
  • Utilize value concepts & tools to define the right value, best fit solution for each individual customer
  • Establish the EPC/Equipment project estimation process. Work with the internal Project Management team to develop an accurate construction schedule and cost estimate budget for the energy storage proposal
  • Participate site visits, customer, EPC partner and vendor meetings when required
  • Participation in the customer meetings as ESS technology expert

 

 

Development Responsibilities:

 

  • Assist in developing a hybrid power solution utilizing Wartsila engines, Energy Storage System (ESS), and renewable generation technologies
  • Lead continuous development and improvement of proposal tools and processes for energy storage and hybrid system solutions
  • Lead development of software modeling tools for various configurations of energy storage, engines, utility systems, and renewables generation to be used in grid tied and stand-alone power applications

 

 

Requirements:

 

  • Minimum BSc or MSc degree in electrical engineering/power engineering
  • Minimum 5-7 years of utility scale ESS (technical and commercial) experience in energy storage and renewable energy markets, power systems engineering, or similar projects and products (bi-directional inverters, dc/dc converter, various battery chemistries, solar, wind turbines, etc.)
  • Experienced Energy Storage proposal development and sales engineering experience both as individual contributor and team leader
  • Excellent teamwork, team managerial and leadership skills with a minimum 5 year experience.
  • Experience with energy storage and renewable energy markets/customers in Americas region and solid understanding of project development process
  • Able to read, draft and understand system schematics, single-line drawings, mechanical elevation, and building layout drawings
  • Knowledgeable in local utility systems and interconnection requirements for electric generators.
  • Medium-voltage system design and construction background is desirable
  • Understanding of CE, UL, IEEE, IEC and NEC standards as applicable to the local region.
  • Existing relationships with regional EPCs, Developers or IPPs are preferred
  • Energetic and enthusiastic approach
  • Strong written, oral and presentation skills. Must be a proven and competent English writer, able to create grammatically correct and properly structured English proposal documents and contents.
  • Competent with MS Office products (Excel, Work, PowerPoint, Projects, Outlook, etc.) as well as graphical design tools (ACAD, Solidworks, Paint, Illustrator, etc.)
  • Passion for innovation, ability to adapt to fast changing market demands, working independently and as a regional team leader
  • Willingness to take ownership and produce results
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
  • Strong work ethic
  • Ability to travel as required (estimated 25% of time)
