We are looking for a dynamic high performer to join our fast-paced Team. A focused


Workshop Technician, Mechanic


professional will complete our team.

The preferred location for the position is in Esposende, Portugal.

What will you be doing

As a Workshop Technician/Mechanic it will be your responsibility to work on overhauling, repairs, retrofit and cleaning all kind of parts of our customers from Maritime Engines or Power Plant Engines such as cylinders heads, liners, pistons, valves, seals and other engine components. With your practical experience working on engines or other rotating equipment’s, you will work on maintenance repairs of all of engine in our Workshop.
On each assigned service-components you can use Wärtsilä manuals, drawings and measurement & repair procedures. For experienced Technicians/Mechanics we can offer the chance to work independently at your own assigned service-projects. Junior Technicians/Mechanics will be guided by one of our experienced colleagues.

For us to be the best match, we expect you to have understanding in machines and mechanical matters. This position needs to have proactive attitude, well manners and presence, with autonomous own proceeds following the Wartsila guidelines and way of working. As an ideal candidate, you need to have the willingness to learn, assimilate and provide your best contribution to yours peers, team member and final customers, be it technically or behaviourally. Experience from Marine and Power Plant engines and knowledge of diesel and gas engines are a plus.

You will have the chance to work in a technically interesting environment within the Maritime & Energy Industry and be part of our Services Workshop Team established in Portugal.


For you to succeed in the position, we hope you to have solid technical background:

  • High School / Diploma or equivalent in mechanical, technical and/or engineering related.
  • Experience with mechanics, engines, machines, etc.
  • Experience with marine equipment, etc. is a plus.

As Workshop Technician/Mechanic, your work will focus on these responsibilities:


  • Carry out maintenance activities related to Wartsila's products, overhauls and repairs according work plan, tests, adjustments and maintenance. 
  • Perform analysis to find root causes of failures in components.
  • Keep track of work details and provide deepen reports, including all the necessary details (measurements, photos, way of working, investigations, etc.). 
  • Perform internal and external progress reporting on the status of assigned work. Keep track and provide the accounting of time, together with the spare parts to be used. 
  • Prompt feedback to work Coordination and Resources departments.
  • Ensure that the work is executed according to Wärtsila Quality, Health, Safety & Environmental guidelines and procedures.
  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain mechanic equipment and apparatuses using hand and power tools.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure that repairs have been finalized correctly and that machinery and equipment are compliant to specifications and safety standards.
  • Proactively advice and promote products and solutions.
  • Instructs and directs if any maintenance trainees assigned.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Able to perform/completion of any other task/duties as assigned.
  • Perform internal and external progress reporting on the status of assigned work. 
  • Keep track and provide the accounting of time, together with the spare parts to be used.
  • Prepare technical reports on time, with the collections of the expected documentation according to Wartsila quality.
  • To maintain a professional appearance and conduct.
  • Ready to travel on short notice.

In this role, some travel will be required to inspections or solving customer demands. Thus, we hope you have willingness and flexibility to travel for jobs, approximately 40% of your working time.
