Business Development Manager, Energy Storage - United Kingdom

In implementing the Energy Business strategy, we are now scaling up the storage business to the next level in Europe and looking for a 

 

Business Development Manager (BDM), Energy Storage 
 
for UK & Ireland. Preferred location for this position is in UK.

 

The ideal candidate is an accomplished leader with successful track record and market presence, capable of leading teams, influencing stakeholders in an interdisciplinary organization and able to make clear decisions and build commitment to those decisions across the organization. The candidate should thrive in a fast paced, constantly changing environment. This role will report to the Energy Business Director, Europe.

 

In this position, your main responsibilities include:  
 

  • Originate new business opportunities and pipeline for energy storage sales projects and agreements.
  • Responsible for own country Energy Storage business, covering entire sales process from creating demand through originating grid-scale opportunities to closing profitable deals for new build and service agreements. 
  • Promote Wärtsilä products/solutions to create strong market presence and build long-term relationship with existing and new customers through-out the life cycle.
  • Promote Energy Business strategic objectives and value based selling propositions to support customers' decisions.
  • Developing successful partnerships with key cust    omers and strategic partners.
  • Accurately forecast and deliver sales with profitability and risk profiles according to Wärtsilä directives.
  • Increase awareness of Wartsila products and services and develop tailored business cases and promote the full life-cycle value for the customers.
  • Accountable for strategy and account planning for the assigned customers
  • Develop long term customer relationship & satisfaction, by supporting customers in their lead development and decision-making process and ensure high level satisfaction during the whole sales process and execution.
  • Leading, managing, and developing the sales opportunity team efficiently and in a sustainable manner. Ensuring customer focus, solid understanding of market trends and customers’ business drivers, managing customer relationships and positioning to create trust and demand. 
  • Lead negotiations (technical & contractual) and ensure quality aspects related to commercial, technical, risks and compliance are addressed.
  • Represent voice of customers to internal stakeholders.
  • Develop a solid understanding of relevant local legislation and the requirements for doing business.

 
The below will enable you to shine in this role:
 

  • Demonstrated experience in grid-scale energy storage business development and sales. Understanding of the business environment of European electricity markets, financing, power utilities, independent power producers (IPP), equipment suppliers, and other relevant power market stakeholders.
  • Minimum five years of experience in a professional business environment.
  • Consultative selling skills, ability to understand customer needs and develop a winning solution.
  • Demonstrated success influencing senior level stakeholders in utility, IPP, or large energy corporate environments. 
  • Proficiency in energy storage business, technology and products, and commercial understanding of energy storage contracts.
  • Experience and understanding of engineering, construction, and commissioning process of utility-scale assets. 
  • Fluency in English, other European main languages are considered an asset. 
  • Master or Bachelor level education in Engineering, Business or Economics. MBA is considered a strength.
  • Willing and able to travel at short notice and spend time with customers.
  • Recognised leader with great ability to build trust and lead high performing teams. 
  • Boundaryless mindset, is happy to challenge status quo and change the game.  Has passion for innovation, and ability to adapt to fast changing market demands and simplify complexity to actionable plans.
  • Superior skills in communication, negotiation, inspiration, coaching and development of learning teams.
