Electrical & Automation Engineer

The position of Electrical & Automation Engineer is within Wartsila Engine Services, working on marine and land based diesel and gas engines.  This is a permanent, full time, home based role with UK and international travel requirements.

 

 

As an Electrical & Automation Engineer, your work will focus on these responsibilities:

 

  • Executing Electrical & Automation Field Service activities during overhaul, repair and troubleshooting.
  • Working independently and alongside Mechanical Service Engineers, Sub-Contractors and Shipyard labour on location
  • Proficiency with engine controls and being prepared to develop gas tuning capabilities
  • Liaising closely with the on-site Team Leader/Service Coordinator to provide the progress status of the assigned work and ensure service deadlines are met
  • Ensuring all activities on-site are carried out in accordance with the site safety rules and in compliance with the Company’s health and safety obligations
  • Playing a leading role in ensuring all work is carried out to ISO 45001 standard
  • Liaising with customers on-site, handling enquiries and technical queries
  • Actively advising and promoting product and solutions to customers
  • Submitting accurate and high quality service work reports within agreed time limits
  • Working on offshore installations as required.

 

In addition to the above duties and responsibilities, the post holder must be prepared to undertake such additional duties within their capabilities which may result from changing circumstances, but which may not of necessity, change the general character or level of responsibility of the post.

 

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

 

  • A relevant formal qualification, HNC or above, or equivalent experience
  • A proven electrical and automation background within an engineering or service environment
  • Background of power management systems (speed governors, voltage regulators and synchronising)
  • Hands on experience in engine and/or propulsion control systems
  • Considerable experience of power generating plant
  • Pro-active attitude and the ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • High attention to detail with a methodical approach
  • Practical problem-solving skills
  • IT literacy with knowledge of MS Office Suite
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Fluency in the English language, both verbal and written
  • Openness and willingness to learn and develop further skills, such as Wärtsilä control systems.
  • Mechanical experience is a benefit
