Software Solutions Engineer

 

to join our team working for a better future.

 

The position is permanent and the preferred location is UK Based.

 

What you will be doing

 

Applications Engineers at Wartsila Energy Storage & Optimization (ES&O) are software engineers that specialize in solving novel and specific challenges related to our grid-scale battery energy storage projects, and our Power Plant Controller (PPC) software. Applications Engineers are strong software engineering generalists that bridge the gap between our standard software product offering, and the specific software requirements of each project.

 

As a Software Solutions Engineer, your work will focus on these responsibilities:

 

  • Development of software in support of project-specific or customer-specific requirements that deviate from our standard product offering. This often involves working with cross-functional teams to address problems ranging from networking, to power & energy, to runtime and performance, to usability and efficiency.
  • Development of novel tools and techniques to support the effectiveness of our project commissioning teams as they deliver projects to customers
  • Support for our existing projects in production,

 

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

 

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering or Power Systems Engineering with experience in substations, power plants and power transmission systems OR with experience in a related field
  • Experience or knowledge of SCADA standards and products 
  • Basic knowledge of programming – Java, Javascript, python
  • Knowledge of Networking – VLAN, NAT, and basic principle of switches and routers configuration. 
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocol (Modbus, OPC DA/OPC UA) 
  • Passionate about renewable energy. 
  • Knowledge on Grid Code Compliance (IEEE 1547) related testing.
  • Attention to details and good time management skill. Ability to multi-tasking and engage multiple projects simultaneously. 

 

Optional and Preferred, but we can teach you if you are a fast learner 

  • Knowledge of TCP/IP network communication devices and protocols 
  • Java experience 
  • Experience with DNP3, IEC-61850, IEC-61870-104-5 
  • Grasp of cybersecurity principles and practices in software products 
  • Familiar with Linux OS  
  • Working experience with Modern software development management tools including JIRA, GIT and Confluence. 
  • Familiar with ssh and tunneling. 
  • Working experience with Docker and/or Kubernetes. 
  • Experience with drawing tools to create diagram such as SLD, P&ID, such as ACAD or Visio. 

 

 

(In this role, some travel is required to meet with our customers around the world. Thus, we hope you to be ready to travel approximately 10%, even though most of the meetings are held virtually.)
