DevOps Engineer

The Digital Development team is looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer that can help them in taking predictive maintenance to the next level. 


Our Digital Product Development (DPD) organization develops digital products for Wärtsilä business units (BU) in Marine Power, Marine Systems and Energy. DPD uses a common technology stack to generate insight from operational data, to make for example predictive maintenance- or efficiency optimization products such as Wärtsilä Expert Insight. DPD is growing from around 100 to 120 professionals.


We are looking for a (senior) Dev-ops Engineer that will be able to maintain, improve and extend the (AWS) services that make up the Wärtsilä Data Bridge platform and ease the use of this for other developers. You will be highly involved in making sure that the data platform is able to grow and deal with ever increasing data volumes. You will work in close cooperation with the other developers, data scientists and testers on a data platform that is used to provide internal stakeholders high quality, high volume and high frequency data.


This a permanent opportunity and would preferably be located at our office in Drunen, Netherlands, however we also consider our office in Helsinki, Finland as an option.  

As a DevOps Engineer your work will focus on these responsibilities:  

  • You participate in maintaining and improving the AWS infrastructure for our data platform.
  • You work on tuning our Kubernetes setup for peak performance and resilience.
  • You collaborate with other teams and consult them on DevOps and cloud related issues
  • You improve and adapt our continuous integration/deployment pipeline(s) so that teams can have fast feedback and thus can effectively work.
  • You are continuously seeking ways to improve our DevOps practices that help improve our products.


To be successful in this role we expect you to have: 

  • You hold a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Computer Science or at least 3 years of relevant experience with DevOps activities.
  • You have experience in AWS services, vpc & networking and large multi-account setups.
  • You have experience in Kubernetes administration as well as usage.
  • You have experience in Ansible, Helm and Terraform and Azure experience is a plus.
  • You have basic Python and Java knowledge.
  • You maintain and build our Continuous Integration and Deployment pipelines (experience in Bamboo is a plus)
  • Ability to inspire and coach others with regards to DevOps.
  • Experience with automated testing on different levels is a plus.
