ICS cyber security lead project engineer

Position Overview:

We are seeking an Industrial Control Systems (ICS) and cyber security expert to work in the context of Wärtsilä Energy business projects as cyber security project lead engineer.

As an expert within our Cyber as a Service (CaaS) team, your primary responsibility will be working in the context of Energy Business projects, leading, advising and ensuring the project is designed, tested and commissioned according to customer expectation and requirements specifications.

You will be a member of our CaaS team, from where you will be assigned to specific Energy Business projects and work closely with you peers in our Cyber organisation and the core project team.

Preferred location for this is position is Paris, Vaasa or Helsinki.


In your job, you will be responsible for assessing the security requirements of specific sales and delivery projects, ensure that they are properly capture and met in the lifecycle of the project. Your primarily working domain will Energy business projects which you will be assigned to support from the CaaS team.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Act as subject matter expert in cyber security for the project within the project group and towards the customer
  • Capture the cyber security requirements of the specific project and ensure their successful inclusion to the project
  • Engineer the requirements appropriately across the lifecycle of the project
  • Ensure successful design of needed cyber security requirements and features
  • Ensure successful testing of the cyber security by means of cyber FAT and SAT
  • Ensure project documentation is meeting customer requirements
  • Translate the cyber requirements for project team, stakeholders
  • Provide project sales and delivery organizations with support for industrial control systems cyber security solutions
  • Collaborate with other cyber security experts, product experts and organizations across business

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:


  • BS in engineering with 10 years of experience working with industrial control systems or
  • MS in engineering with 7 years of experience working with industrial control systems


  • Candidate must be a native in French language who can as well read, write, speak and understand English proficiently
  • Some knowledge of recognized international standards associated with the cybersecurity of industrial control systems (i.e. ISA/IEC 62443) and how to apply them
  • Knowledge of the French National Cybersecurity Agency (ANSSI) and some recognized industrial control cybersecurity risk frameworks is not obligatory, but beneficial
  • The successful candidate should have demonstrated project management skills, a good level written and verbal communication skills
  • A good knowledge of Industrial Control Systems
  • Project and change management experience high desired and certification e.g. PMP a plus
  • Cyber security certifications (like for example: CISP, CEH, CISM, CISA, GIAC (GCIP), NERC-CIP, 62433, …)  are considered as a plus

  • High level problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively as a member the international and multicultural environment
  • Demonstrated skills in organizing work, setting priorities and planning
  • Consultation experience is a plus
