Software Developer/Solution Architect for Big Data Analytics

The maritime industry is on a cusp of a big data revolution, and Wärtsilä wants to develop the capability to work with publicly-available datasets about vessel movements in order to extract actionable commercial and marketing intelligence. We are looking for an experienced software developer to lead development efforts on internal tools for our business development and sales organizations.  
 
The preferred location for this position are in St. Petersberg, Russia, Athens, Greece and Trieste, Italy, but other locations are also possible.  
 
Responsibilities
The candidate would help us design and build the tools and architecture needed for advanced business intelligence analytics and visualization using AIS and other structured and unstructured data sources. 
For the first 3-6 months, the focus would be on developing a tool to quantify the fuel and CO2 emission saving potential of implementing just-in-time (JIT) arrival coordination between ships and ports.  

In addition to taking the lead on building library of tools, the successful candidate will coordinate data scientists and equipment experts within the organization and work closely with business users to support ad-hoc analysis requests and ensure code and analysis are modular and reusable.
 
Requirements
• Computer science or software engineering background 
• Minimum 2 year’s experience in software development, preferably including prior experience as a system/solution architect defining the application or framework architecture 
• Experience in leading a small software development team is an advantage 
• Experience with big data analytics, machine learning and reporting technologies
• Knowledge of Python, R, machine learning and visualization libraries 
• Knowledge of relational databases, cloud architecture and big data databases with analytics 
• Familiarity with the marine industry and manufacturing companies is a plus
