Manager, Class Approvals

DPD the Digital Product Development function is a function in AMS. The new Digital function is focusing on accelerating towards our Smart Marine and Smart Energy visions, by developing important propositions and capabilities for our partnership-and transactional business. The organization recognizes three value streams being Dynamic Maintenance Planning, Digital Product Management and Mobilization and Support. 

 

The function will define our digital strategy and roadmap, develop as-a-service products for agreements- and transactional customers, consolidate and simplify our existing digital offering, and provide lifecycle support towards our delivery partners. The function will be responsible for our asset focused digital offering.

 

We are looking for an experienced manager for managing class approvals such as DNV-GL, ABS, Lloyds register etc. This position will be located at any major Wärtsilä location in Europe and reports to Director Dynamic Maintenance Planning. It is the task of the Manager, Class Approval to work towards ensuring class approvals of digital as-a-service products in close coordination with Class societies and the Wärtsilä colleagues required for the task. The person should be an excellent networker, have project manager capabilities as this is needed to pull the classification projects forward. The individual forms a structural plan, or blue print, for all the effort to follow and executes on this. This includes technical writing, a love for thorough documentation and preparing of documentation for service level recognitions such as quality manuals, process descriptions and other sorts of technical documentation. The position holder will be the PM and the person to go to for class recognitions thus will have a total responsibility for that. The role is approximately 50% management and 50% doing.
The successful candidate will be comfortable with developing structure and be skilled in project planning. Experience with stakeholder management locally and globally will be critical in delivering complex but critically important Class Society approvals

 

The location of the position is Finland or the Netherlands, and can be negotiated.

 

Requirements
- Strong project management capability
- Structured approach and used to work with authorities
- A burning love to do preparation of documentation for service level recognitions such as quality manuals, process descriptions and technical documentation
- Previous minimum 5 years of experience working with classification societies such as ABS, DNV-GL etc.
- Strong analytical skills, understanding of complex issues, the ability to quickly absorb information, conceptual and creative problem-solving excellence.
- Can-do attitude, proactive thinking/doing, being able to navigate complex networks of stakeholder relationships internally and externally with diverse cultural understanding and comfortable working with global teams
- Able to work independently and comfortable with ambiguity.
- Strong facilitation skills to build alignment to drive decision making and action.
- Able to multi-task and have strong organizational skills.
- Drive - enjoys a challenge, proven ability to adapt and remove obstacles to achieve results, determination and optimism.
- Strong team player with a high degree of flexibility and positive communication that motivates and influences achievement of team objectives.
