Software Test Engineer

As Software Test Engineer, you will be a member of Efficiency Optimisation (EO) Insight Factory team which develops, supports and maintains data processing and data storage solutions helping our customers to improve the energy efficiency of their vessels. The team is a self-managing, cross-functional agile team focused on continuous delivery of new functionalities and value, as well as the operation of the production environment. As a member of the team you will share the team responsibility from planning, designing and implementation to testing, piloting, delivering and supporting.

 

As a Software Test Engineer, your focus within the team is to develop and maintain automated test infrastructure and test sets together with the other members of the team. The testing is embedded in our continuous release chain, to enable blazing fast feedback to your development colleagues after each build. Within the Development Team, you are the team’s conscience with regards to clean administration and correct sharing of information. This helps us to achieve the goal of generatable reports/documentation and to save on unnecessary ambiguities further up the chain.

 

You will be a member of the EO department consisting of agile teams, designers and domain experts located in our office in Finland. Your position is based in Helsinki in our brand new Wärtsilä Campus in Salmisaari. You will also be a contributing member in a growing cross-team Guild of Test and DevOps Professionals within EO. We aim at quick insight in the quality of releases and shielding of our customers from preventable problems.

 

What are your main tasks and responsibilities as a Software Test Engineer?

 

Ensure testability of Initiatives, Epics and User Stories and contribute to development already in the design phase

Identifying and analyzing the test basis, to extract test cases and prevent bugs in an early stage

Creating reusable test cycles, used for automated and (limited) manual testing

Analyzing test results of Development Team deliveries by use of Story Testing, System Integration Testing and Regression Testing

Creating bug reports and pro-actively report results based on test executions

Performing root cause analysis of identified deficiencies in products and following up on the resolution process

Providing support to our customer services teams

Explaining, teaching and supporting others to become good at the above as well

Contributing to the team’s way of working to enable continuous improvement within the team

 

What do we expect you to bring with you?

 

Strong understanding of Software Testing and experience on working with Automated Test Environments

Experience working as team member of a Scrum and/or Kanban Team and able to challenge your development colleagues on content level

Pushing back on process and procedure non-conformities within the Scrum Team

Experience with participating in walkthrough’s and reviews, preventing bugs early

The ability to read code in several coding languages and concepts, like Java, JavaScript, React, MongoDB, Python, SQL

Strong ability to query databases and to move repeatable work to scripts

Experience with tools and platforms like Jira, Jenkins, Gitlab, Docker, Maven, Kubernetes, Linux Workstation/Server

Strong analytical abilities and a pro-active attitude, initiative

Effective communication in both written and spoken English
