Wärtsilä is an innovative technology company known for being a forerunner in the Marine and Energy markets. Every day, we – Wärtsilians - put our hearts and minds into turning Wärtsilä's purpose of enabling sustainable societies with smart technology, and our Smart Marine and Energy visions into reality. Our ultimate aim is to provide increased value to both our customers and society. New, game-changing ideas and continuous improvement have been part of our DNA since 1834. Together, we can create new business opportunities and more sustainable future that we can all be proud of.

We want to transition the world towards a cleaner future. By pushing the boundaries of engineering and technology, we can make it work. We are always on the lookout for future-oriented talent – want to join the ride?

We are now looking for a person for a three month project to Energy Business, Environment.

The work is of project type and with the main task to finalize the development of a start emission calculation tool, developed in a Master thesis work.

The research work in the Master Thesis including dynamics of heat transfer in exhaust gas systems is implemented in a MatLab program and a user interface to simulate the start-up emissions has been made. While the program and interface start to be ready as planned, there are still work that must be done for us to be able to use the tool and know-how generated in an efficient manner.

The 3 month project task includes:

• Adding more engines to the program libraries needs a lot of data collection, analysis and implementation.
• Collecting and implementing data related to emission reduction.
• Streamlining the process of doing emission calculations, so that in future the amount of work needed to do this is minimized and focus can be on optimizing the product.
• Work on defining "standard" systems.
• Work on validating the tool and output compared to available measurement data.

We are looking for an active and independently working Master of Science in Chemical Engineering with experience of Application design in MatLab. Having deep understanding of exhaust systems thermodynamics with focus on catalytic systems after medium speed internal combustion engines. Having the capability of continuing and finalizing the final stages of the development project within a time frame of 3 months.

Please apply by 20th of September, 2020.
