Business Development Manager, Energy Business


Wärtsilä is seeking a Business Development Manager, Engine Power Plants, to join our team in Wärtsilä North America, reporting to the Energy Business Director, Engine Power Plants. The preferred location for this position is Fort Lauderdale FL.


What will you be doing

As a Business Development Manager, Energy Business, you will be accountable for the entire sales process, from creating demand through originating engine power plant solutions sales through closing profitable opportunities for New Build and Service Agreements in North America.

The ideal candidate will have a Masters' degree in Business Management, Sales or a field of study relative to this role.


As a Business Development Manager, Energy Business, you will focus on these responsibilities:

  • Originate new business opportunities for engine power plant solutions in North America for new build and service agreements.
  • Accurately forecast and deliver sales ranging in magnitude from $15 - $100M+ each with profitability and risk profiles according to company directives.
  • Own customer relationship and opportunity business case(s) (Capex & Opex).
  • Create strong market presence and increase awareness of Wärtsilä engine power plant solutions and the role they can play in the transformation of the energy industry as a leading enabler for decarbonization and 100% renewables.
  • Identify and develop opportunities in the market for future-fuel applications including synthetic methane and hydrogen.
  • Participate in industry conferences and events and seek to promote Wärtsilä products and solutions through committee engagement, speaking engagements, or similar opportunities.
  • Develop, manage, and grow long term relationships with key customer accounts throughout engine power plant project lifecycles.
  • Create and execute strategy and account planning for assigned customers.
  • Create new opportunities from named accounts, influencing customers' decisions by aligning their needs with Wärtsilä value proposition.
  • Prepare and submit offers for engine power plant solutions.
  • Lead contract lifecycle from origination through negotiation, closing, and Notice to Proceed (NTP), activating and directing internal colleagues including BDM-Lifecycle, legal, proposal management, engineering, management, and others as needed in a matrix organization.
  • Enter timely and relevant data on opportunities and accounts in SalesForce CRM (funnel management).


To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or MBA in a relevant field of study.
  • SalesForce CRM proficiency
