We are looking for a Business Development Manager to join our dynamic, fast-paced Sales team for Energy business. The preferred location for this position is Fort Lauderdale FL.

 

What will you be doing

As a Business Development Manager, you will proactively develop a pipeline of sales opportunities relevant to Projects to be sold with associated Long Term Service Agreements and develop/maintain customer relationships with the objective of securing new business or power plant extensions.

 

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Business, with five or more years of experience in major capital project sales, including a demonstrated success winning contracts greater than $20 million. Specific reciprocating or turbine engine-based Power Generation industry experience is a must.

 

As a Business Development Manager, you will focus on these responsibilities:

  • Proactively develop a pipeline of sales opportunities relevant to Projects to be sold with associated Long Term Service Agreements
  • Develop and maintain customer relationships with the objective of securing new business or power plant extensions.
  • Work collaboratively and proactively with both North America and Finland based leadership and Project support staff to ensure the maximum leverage of Wartsila strengths, relationships and resources in the development of new power plant opportunities
  • Work closely with our US Lifecycle Agreement BDMs and Agreement Managers to ensure long term customer support for new projects and extensions
  • Respond to customer requests for preliminary and firm pricing, technical and performance information. 
  • Conduct systematically assessed, risk reduced contract negotiations.
  • Customer presentations and on-site meetings. 
  • Participation in trade shows, including presentations.
  • Ensure a comprehensive handover of all commercial and technical aspects of the project at the time of contract

 

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

  • 5 – 10 years of experience in a Business Development role serving the power industry. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers at any level. 
  • Strong knowledge of the power generation market to include renewables and conventional.
  • Written and spoken fluency in English
  • A multi-year track record of major electric utility, municipality or cooperative project sales success (including examples of greater than $20 million USD per project)
  • Previous utility experience and an understanding of the systematic approach to assessing and developing project sales in all aspects, including a demonstrated ability to identify and understand the customer’s buying & funding cycle in order to prioritize opportunities
  • Ability to know when, who and how to influence Project & Agreements and personnel in Wartsila
  • A comprehensive understanding of the North American energy market, the influences of fuel costs and availability.
  • Follows established sales and proposal processes
