Electrical and Automation Superintendent (IAS/PMS/Hybrid Systems)

We are looking for an Electrical and Automation Superintendent to join our quality and safety-minded Field Service team.


What will you be doing

As an Electrical and Automation Superintendent, you be responsible for performing field service activities according to the work plan specifically in relation to Integrated Alarm System (IAS), Power Management System (PMS), and Hybrid systems-driven installations with Wärtsilä equipment.

The ideal candidate has Work experience with UNIC C3 and WECS gas engine installation and troubleshooting and a genuine passion for marine technologies and automation


As an Electrical and Automation Superintendent, you will focus on these responsibilities:


  • Responsible for performing complex and advanced troubleshooting on specific equipment and equipment families in relation to Wärtsilä Automation systems.
  • Acts as superintendent engineer for complex marine Automation systems and Hybrid-driven installations and as a system commissioning engineer to lead-related commissioning activities as required.
  • Responsible for pre-commissioning and commissioning of Wärtsilä sold equipment of latest automation technologies for marine installations.
  • Ensures that work is executed according to Wärtsilä Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental guidelines and customer-site procedures.
  • Proactively advises and promotes available products and solutions to customers.
  • Responsible for building and supporting internal and external stakeholders in regards to specific Automation equipment like IAS, PMS, VSD, Switchboards, Hybrid systems, Cyber security-related devices, network, etc. Requirements

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

  • Preferred M.Sc or B.Sc in Electrical, Controls, Automation Engineering, or marine engineering
  • A genuine passion for marine technologies and automation and a desire to make a difference
  • Systematic way of working and good analytical and organizing skills & Technical problem solving skills
  • Understanding the importance of quality
  • Good command of English, both oral and written & Good ability to cooperate and communicate with other people
  • Willingness to travel
  • Wärtsilä IAS/PMS experience of installation and troubleshooting
  • Experience with energy storage systems and products, such as bi-directional inverters, various battery chemistries, transformers, DC systems, AC systems (LV and MV), and switchboards.
  • Experience with various PLCs (Siemens, Schneider, etc) and SCADA-based systems.
  • Understanding of Data Collection Units and communication protocols.
  • Understanding of hybrid systems operations for peak shaving, optimization of load profile, spinning reserve, and shore power.
  • Considered as an advantage experience with Engines control systems (WECS, UNIC) and SW Tools (Wecsplorer, WCT, and UNITool)
  • Work experience with UNIC C3 and WECS gas engine installation and troubleshooting.
