Field Service, Automation Software Engineer
Field Service, Automation Software Engineer to join our dynamic, fast-paced Electrical & Automation service team. The desired location for this position is Fort Lauderdale FL.
As a Service Engineer, you will focus on these responsibilities:
- Prepare and install software and equipment onboard ships by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming.
- Perform troubleshooting on site to isolate and find causes of equipment failures.
- Keep track of work details and provide in depth reports including all the necessary details. (Measurements, photos, way of working, investigations, etc.)
- Ensure that the work is executed according to Wärtsilä Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental guidelines and customer site procedures.
- Keep track and provide an accounting of time, spare parts used.
- Proactively advise and promote available products and solutions to customers and provide leads for Wärtsilä sales team.
To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

- Education in electrical, electronics, automation, marine engineering, or related fields.
- Understanding and/or experience of logic programming preferred.
- Understanding and/or experience of Electrical and Automation systems, communication nets and interfaces, sensors, actuators, auxiliary equipment. Ability to troubleshoot.
- General understanding of power plant, switchboards, diesel engines, generators, navigation, and propulsion - preferred but not required.
- Ability to develop software and automation solutions by studying information, customers’ needs, conferring with users, and studying systems flow, data usage, and work processes
- Ability to document and present automation and software solutions to the customer by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, drawings, code comments, etc.
- Flexibility to travel for long periods of time is a must.
- Ability to work with subcontractors during cable and equipment installation.
- Ability to work independently in a proactive and structured manner.
- Excellent communication skills
- Motivated to learn in classroom and or field trainings.
- Ability to work in a team, follow directives and deal with people of different nationalities and cultures.
- Ability to work under pressure, to travel and to work abroad and on board of sailing vessels.
