Field Service Engineer, Electrical & Automation

 

We are looking for a Field Service Engineer, Electrical & Automation (E&A) to join our Voyage Solutions Services team. The preferred locations for this position are Fort Lauderdale FL or Harvey (New Orleans) LA.

 

Work will be performed primarily onboard ships so flexibility to travel for long periods of time is a must.

 

As a Service Engineer, E&A you will perform troubleshooting on site to isolate and find causes of equipment failures. You will ensure that the work is executed according to Wärtsilä Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental guidelines and customer site procedures. Keep track and provide an accounting of time, spare parts used. You will proactively advise and promote available products and solutions to customers and provide leads for Wärtsilä sales team.

 

Our ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Electrical or Electronics and knowledge of Wärtsilä products.

 

As a Field Service Engineer, you will focus on these responsibilities:

  • Developing software and automation solutions by studying information, customers’ needs, conferring with users, and studying systems flow, data usage, and work processes
  • Documenting and presenting automation and software solutions to the customer by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, drawings, code comments, etc.
  • Preparing and installing software and equipment onboard ships, determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming.
  • Perform troubleshooting on site to isolate and find causes of equipment failures.
  • Keep track of work details and provide in-depth reports including all the necessary details. (Measurements, photos, way of working, investigations, etc.)

 

 To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

  • Understanding and/or experience of logic programming.
  • Understanding and/or experience of Electrical and automation systems preferred
  • General understanding preferred but not required of power plant, switchboards, diesel engines, generators, navigation and propulsion.
  • Ability to perform troubleshooting related to communication nets and interfaces, sensors, actuators, auxiliary equipment preferred.
  • Ability to work with subcontractors during cable and equipment installation.
  • Ability to work independently in a proactive and structured manner.
  • Knowledge of Wartsila products.
  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Motivated to learn in classroom/field trainings and quickly grow professionally.
  • Ability to work in a team, follow directives and deal with people of different nationalities and cultures.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to travel, to work abroad and on board of sailing vessels is a must.
  • Technical diploma in electrical, electronics, automation and/or marine engineering.
