The position is permanent, and the preferred location is Fort Lauderdale / Miami, Florida.
What You Will Be Doing?
As an In-Situ Machining Specialist, you will play a key role within the Marine Parts & Field Service team, supporting both Marine and Power Plant customers across North and Latin America.
This is a highly hands-on, technical role with a strong field service component, requiring frequent travel and the ability to work independently on complex machining tasks in demanding customer environments.
You will perform and lead in-situ machining activities on Wärtsilä and third-party engines and critical components, both in workshop and on-site, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with Wärtsilä standards.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and execute in-situ machining activities on Wärtsilä and third-party equipment, including engines and critical components.
- Perform machining work in field service and workshop environments, adapting to varying site conditions.
- Carry out line boring, crankshaft machining, crack pin machining, and metal stitching activities.
- Perform engine and crankshaft inspections, ensuring compliance with certification and regulatory requirements.
- Polish, inspect, and machine engine components to extend engine life and ensure certification standards are met.
- Lead or coordinate small machining teams during field assignments.
- Conduct site audits and assess machining and repair requirements.
- Prepare and submit technical service reports, work reports, and travel & expense reports accurately and on time, following Wärtsilä quality standards.
- Act as a customer-facing technical expert, maintaining strong professional relationships and representing Wärtsilä positively.
- Promote Wärtsilä products and services during customer interactions.
- Participate in internal working groups and contribute to team development and knowledge sharing.
- Execute all work in strict compliance with Wärtsilä safety, quality, and operational standards.
Required Qualifications:
- Completed High School or Vocational School in machining or machinist-related field.
- Minimum 3+ years of hands-on machining experience in a workshop and/or field service environment.
- Proven experience with: Lathe operations - Milling machines - Drilling, tapping, reaming, grinding - Welding and fabrication - Use of precision measuring equipment.
- Field service experience or demonstrated ability to quickly adapt to field-based work.
- Strong mechanical and machining expertise with engines and critical components.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, procedures, and standards.
- Solid information management skills
- Languages - Advanced English (spoken and written).
Other Requirements:
- High availability for travel, both domestic and international, on short notice (up to ~80%).
- Ability to work under pressure in multicultural and customer-facing environments.
- Strong communication skills and customer orientation.
- Motivation to learn, grow, and operate at a senior technical level.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Engineering degree or advanced technical education.
- Prior experience with Wartsila products and services.
- Proven ability to operate independently with minimal supervision.

Travel Requirements
In this role, extensive international and domestic travel is required.
Expect to travel approximately 80% of the time, with assignments typically lasting 3–7 days, depending on project scope and engine size.
