Located in the vibrant city of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, this opportunity is ideal for 1st year law students looking to immerse themselves in the field of marine legal affairs and compliance.

You will be a member of a dynamic and highly professional Legal and Compliance in-house team, passionate about delivering high-quality services. This position offers significant growth opportunities in legal expertise through exposure to a variety of legal tasks. 

 

This is a paid internship opportunity exclusively for first-year law school students. The position requires a hybrid schedule, with three days per week onsite at our Fort Lauderdale office. 

 

Join Our Marine Legal & Compliance Team! 

 

Responsibilities 

As a Legal Intern, your primary focus will be to provide pivotal legal support across various facets of our business. Key responsibilities include: 

  • Supporting the implementation of new regulations impacting Wärtsilä's operations, particularly in commercial transactional management. 

  • Providing business-oriented legal support across Wärtsilä Americas. 

  • Drafting, reviewing, and commenting on contracts and other documents from a legal perspective. 

  • Assisting in the negotiation of business transactions. 

  • Helping manage and mitigate legal and contractual risks. 

  • Supporting the management of claims and disputes. 

  • Contributing to the development of training programs, legal practices, and operational methodologies. 

  • Participating in the enhancement of Wärtsilä's legal policies. 

 

Qualifications 

  • Currently enrolled in an American Law School, having completed the first year by the time this position begins. 

  • An interest in Commercial, Transactional, and Maritime law. 

  • Ability to work independently, with initiative, and possess strong influencing skills. 

  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities. 

  • Proficient in problem-solving and decision-making. 

  • Proactive and solution-oriented with a keen eye for detail. 

  • Ability to understand complex agreements and draft corresponding documents. 

  • High ethical and professional standards. 

  • Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus.
