Sales Proposal Engineer – Propulsion


Wärtsilä North America, Inc., Marine Power is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position: Sales Proposals Engineer, Propulsion, North America.

As a part of the new Marine Power Business, you will belong to the Sales business line.  You will be part of a dynamic and energetic team that develops business strategies which drive growth and profitability, support sales performance through providing steady flow of new leads and opportunities and leverage high level customer experience.

In this position, qualified candidates will report to the Team Lead, Sales Proposals, North America. The location of this position is within North America.


The Proposal Engineer, Sales Proposals, North America will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  • To assist the Team Leader, Sales Proposals to increase sales.

  • Assist in providing technical advice to customers in relation to service & parts requests.

  • To produce Field Service and Workshop quotations for the Amer sales team.

  • To develop standard services together with the field service & workshop teams and to calculate together fixed prices for fixed services.

  • Assist Spare Part Sales in parts identification for quicker resolution of queries.

  • Provide assistance to sales as requested.

  • Update and actively support CRM maintaining data quality at the highest level.

  • Work closely with customers to monitor progress and timely delivery of quotations.

  • Follow up with customers on any outstanding offers.

  • Compliance at all times with appropriate QA and Health & Safety procedure.

  • In addition to the above duties and responsibilities, the post holder must be prepared to undertake such additional duties within their capabilities which may result from changing circumstances, but which may not of necessity, change the general character or level of responsibility of the position.

  • Ability to use data and analytics to identify new opportunities, assist where required to develop new and innovative ways to use data as a sales tool.

  • Follow up with customers on any outstanding offers.

Qualified candidates will shine in this role when they have relevant education, work experience and a proven track record in successfully providing sales proposals in challenging markets.  In addition, the ideal candidate will have:

  • Knowledge of regional market and awareness of cultural diversity.

  • Strong customer focus and capability of being part of building strategic relationships.

  • Good knowledge of Wärtsilä propulsion products and solutions.

  • High attention to detail. 

  • A proactive attitude and be a proactive individual who is not afraid to get stuck in.

  • Good time management and organisation skills - able to effectively manage a dynamic workload. 

  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently independently and as part of a team. 

  • Fluent in English Language.

  • Bachelor’s Degree, with several years of experience within the marine market; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Qualified candidates may be required to travel domestically and internationally up to 30% of the time and will need to maintain a valid passport.
