Parts and Field Service is now looking for an enthusiastic Senior Service Engineer to join our skilled PBL team in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

What will you be doing?

 

The Wartsila PBL team is responsible for a comprehensive, 12-year performance-based agreement that has been signed between Wärtsilä and Carnival Corporation. The agreement includes Wartsila’s Dynamic Maintenance Planning (DMP) and Condition Based Maintenance (CBM). Simplified, Wärtsilä will take care of engine maintenance and monitoring, scheduled or not.

 

As a Service Engineer Turbocharger, you will be responsible for maintenance and repair jobs, both in our Ft. Lauderdale workshop and onboard the Carnival Cruise Lines fleet of vessels, attending ships worldwide.

 

This position reports to the Field Service Resource Coordinator.

 

Wärtsilä, a SMART technology company, is seeking the ideal candidate to join our fast- paced, high performance Field Service Operations coordination team (AMER). Candidates are expected to display a high level of critical thinking and reasoning skills, identify as high performers, as well as being self-motivating.

 

Accountabilities:

 

  • Assembly and disassembly of turbochargers and components, in accordance with manufacturer working instructions, both onsite and in our workshop.
  • Analysis of the mechanical failures and preparing a technical investigation report.
  • Supporting the back-office team on service or technical aspects.
  • Quality control of work.
  • Perform Field service activities, as well as turbocharger workshop activities.
  • Perform and ensure repairs/overhauls on turbo equipment/components according to given instructions as well as quality, health, safety, environmental guidelines, and cost targets.
  • Perform measurement and record the data on the relevant measurement records document.
  • Prepare service reports using the SWR tool on time and with expected Wartsila quality.
  • Performing preventive maintenance on all turbocharger machinery.
  • Maintain measurement tools and turbo tools.
  • Gather technical information from TKB by accessing technical bulletins and operational / overhaul instructions from the product manual.
  • Access the parts catalogue to find out the parts required that need to be ordered to support overhauling or repair of the component/equipment.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Interact professionally with customers during the work execution.
  • Perform internal and external progress status of the assigned work.
  • Creating the Service Work Reports.
  • Ensure that the work is executed according to Wärtsilä QEHS guidelines and site procedures.
  • Follow-up and report on the status of work orders to customers and/or internal stakeholders.
  • Continuously seek solutions according to best practices.

 

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

 

  • A safety-first mindset.
  • Relevant technical education or qualifications as a combination of education and experience, as well as 5+ years’ experience on ABB TPL/ VYT series / Napier turbochargers.
  • Technical experience with reciprocating engines.
  • Good ability to cooperate and communicate with other people and good command of English, both oral and written
  • Experience on ABB TPL73/ TPL77/VTR354 (including alignment before removal/installation, centrifuge installation and alignment, lube oil pumps installation and alignment, K-L-M measurements and cartridge replacement lifting and rigging) preferred.
  • Ability to work alone and act as a lead.
  • Able to operate rotating machinery, such as balancing machine, lathes, drills.
  • Able to troubleshoot turbocharger issues/performance.
  • Competent with turbocharger washing systems.

Travel Requirements:

 

This position requires a 50% travel commitment, encompassing both domestic and international, including onshore and offshore locations. The role demands adaptability to varying travel demands, with an expectation of extended periods away from the primary work location. Prospective candidates should be prepared to fulfill these travel obligations as an integral aspect of the position's responsibilities.
