About the role:

The Simulation Delivery and Customer Service Team Leader AMER manages and leads a team of Project Managers and Engineers, driving the successful delivery and support of maritime simulation projects across the region. This leadership role involves looking after a portfolio of local projects as well as overseeing the performance and development of the team while directly managing complex simulation projects from initiation through deployment and customer support process.
 
The Team Leader is responsible for ensuring seamless communication and coordination across the regional team and with all stakeholders, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within scope, within budget, and with high customer satisfaction. He/She will also serve as a Project Manager for key projects, driving the execution of simulation maritime solutions to meet customer requirements and strategic goals.

The ideal candidate will have previous marine industry experience, strong relationship building skills, and must be located within the Ft. Lauderdale, Melbourne, or Orlando FL region.  

 
Main Responsibilities:

 

Team Leadership & Coordination

  • Lead and support a team of Project Managers and Engineers, ensuring regular communication, providing guidance, and enabling team success.
  • Collaborate closely with and support the Head of Simulation Delivery in overseeing and managing operational tasks for the Americas region.
  • Look after portfolio of local projects and maintain respective KPIs.
  • Report to higher management about team performance.
  • Collaboration with Global Customer Support Lead to provide necessary resources to ensure customer focus and satisfaction in case handling.
  • Assigning of resources to, and technical support of sales with pre-contract opportunities.
  • Management of partners technical services in the region.

 

Project management

  • Work according to the Commercial Project Management process adopted and utilized by Wartsila, using appropriate tools.
  • Assist the Sales Manager in reviewing a competent project offer, specifically focused on the technical solution, scope of supply, necessary resources for project deployment, schedule, risks, and cost.
  • Ensure all areas of project management activities from the beginning to the end of the project are managed, including:
    • Procurement and contractor’s management, activity coordination with operational and logistic departments
    • Project scope of supply planning, verification (FAT, SAT, etc.), and delivery.
    • Project schedule planning and control.
    • Project costing, budget planning and control; cooperation with the financial department.
    • Project communication management includes delivering project expectations, tasks, needs, and progress reports to the project team and the defined stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
    • Project risk planning, assessment, and control, preemptive and corrective actions to mitigate or minimize potential risks impact.
  • Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the project team.
  • Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path.
  • Proactively manage changes in project scope, schedule, and cost, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans. Escalate changes that affect project cost or payment milestones to Project Sponsor, plan countermeasures.
  • Close project, conduct project evaluation, identify and report most successful and unsuccessful project elements for knowledge base.
  • Adhere to internal company and functional policies and procedures.
  • Perform allocated works: Installation, participation in FAT/SAT, local coordination of works with customer’s representatives and other suppliers.
  • Project technical specification and scope of supply review.
  • Identification and evaluation of technical solutions, preferred models and vendors for 3rd party equipment which is to be used within the scope of supply.
  • Performing customer support by email, phone and on-site participation in customer visits.
  • Performing quality control of completed job.
  • Continuous improvement of professional competence.
  • Follow health and safety requirements of Wartsila and/or locals, whichever applies
  • Follow Quality Management system requirements.

 

Other Key Duties

  • Make suggestions to improve the technology and organization of production and QMS of the company and management unit’s system.
  • Conduct correspondence on behalf of the company within their competence.
  • Represent the company on matters within its competence.
  • Fax, email, and mobile communications for the proper performance of the above duties.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relatable field of study
  • 5+ years’ experience in project management
  • Maritime background an advantage
  • Deep and broad experience with IT environments, including network, computers, Operating Systems, and related technologies
  • Electronics and Project/Team management certification an advantage.
  • Experience with PC/network installation and commissioning
  • Experience with Troubleshooting/fault finding
  • Interpersonal skills – verbal and written
  • Proactive, self-starter able to jump in, ramp up and lead without a lot of oversight or direction
  • Physical ability to cope with allocated work and traveling up to 50% of the time
  • Fluency with English language (read, speak, write)
  • Successful applicant must be authorized to work in the USA without sponsorship

 

Travel Requirements:
This position requires a 40% travel commitment, encompassing both domestic and international, including onshore and offshore locations. The role demands adaptability to varying travel demands, with an expectation of extended periods away from the primary work location. Prospective candidates should be prepared to fulfill these travel obligations as an integral aspect of the position's responsibilities.

Successful applicant must be authorized to work in the USA without sponsorship. Salary range is $100,000 - $120,000 depending on experience and education. The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.  Eligibility to participate in: the discretionary incentive plan assigned to the level of position upon offer of employment; medical, dental and vision coverage, 401(k) plan and flexible spending accounts, subject to plan terms; Company-paid benefits such as life insurance, short- and long-term disability, subject to applicable waiting periods.  Paid time off (PTO) is accrued on a per-pay period basis in accordance with tenure in the Company; a new hire can expect 17 days per year. Twelve (12) Company-paid holidays.
