We are currently looking for a Superintendent, In-Situ Machining to join our Marine Field Service team.
This is a permanent position, with the preferred location being Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA.
What You Will Be Doing?
As Superintendent, In-Situ Machining, you will serve as a senior technical authority for highly specialized crankshaft repair and in-situ machining projects on marine and stationary diesel engines. You will lead complex field assignments worldwide, develop repair methodologies, engineer specialized tooling solutions, and provide technical leadership to customers and field service personnel.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading and executing complex in-situ machining and crankshaft repair projects on marine and stationary 2-stroke and 4-stroke diesel engines.
- Acting as the technical lead for field service assignments worldwide, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality project execution.
- Engineering, designing, modifying, and maintaining specialized machining tools and equipment required for unique repair applications.
- Developing repair methodologies and technical solutions for challenging field conditions and customer requirements.
- Performing technical assessments, inspections, and condition evaluations of crankshafts and critical engine components.
- Providing technical guidance and mentoring to field service personnel and machinists during project execution.
- Supporting customers with technical consultation regarding repair strategies, restoration methods, and equipment condition.
- Working closely with internal and external stakeholders to define project scope, schedules, and execution plans.
- Preparing technical reports, recommendations, and project documentation in accordance with Wärtsilä standards.
- Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement of machining methods, repair processes, and tooling solutions.
- Promoting a strong safety culture and ensuring all activities comply with Wärtsilä policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
What You Will Bring?
Must Have
- Extensive experience performing and leading in-situ machining and crankshaft repair projects on large marine or stationary diesel engines.
- Proven expertise with both low-speed and medium-speed 2-stroke and 4-stroke engine repair methodologies.
- Demonstrated experience engineering, designing, modifying, and operating specialized machining tooling for field repair applications.
- Strong background in crankshaft machining, line boring, crack pin machining, metal stitching, and precision restoration techniques.
- Experience leading customer-facing field service assignments in demanding operational environments.
- Ability to independently assess repair requirements and develop technical solutions for complex challenges.
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings, tolerances, machining processes, and precision measurement techniques.
- Advanced English communication skills, both written and spoken.
- Availability and willingness to travel extensively on global assignments.
Nice to Have
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Previous experience with Wärtsilä products and services.
- Experience supporting shipyards, vessel operators, offshore customers, or power generation facilities.
- Experience leading, mentoring, or developing technical field service teams.
- Additional language skills.

Travel Requirements
This role requires extensive domestic and international travel, with travel expected to be approximately 80% of the time.
Assignments may take place on board vessels, in shipyards, workshops, and power plant facilities around the world. Flexibility to travel on short notice and support customer needs globally is essential.
