Superintendent In-Situ Machinist

 

Wärtsilä Parts and Field Service is now looking for enthusiastic Superintendent In-Situ Machinists to join our skilled QuantiServ team in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

 

QuantiServ offers specialised, fast and reliable support, maintenance and repair services for our customers.

 

The QuantiServ team currently consists of some 400 specialised professionals. They provide reconditioning and in-situ services as well as flexible repair and overhaul services for auxiliary and generating sets onboard customers’ vessels.

 

The repair and overhaul services are carried out by ‘Mobile Teams’, which board the customer’s vessel and perform the job during the voyage.

 

The dedicated QuantiServ team is equipped with leading technology and know-how, certified expertise to match IMO requirements, extensive OEM experience and unmatched global reach.

 

What will you be doing?

 

As a Superintendent In-Situ, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently disassemble, thoroughly inspect, and precisely machine and rebuild a large variety of reciprocating engine components according to QuantiServ’s established guidelines and safety protocols. You will oversee and manage all aspects of on-site machining operations- from line boring to crankshaft machining.

 

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in machining, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to lead and train a team of skilled Machinists to ensure the successful completion of projects within specified timelines and quality standards.

 

This position reports to the In-Situ Manager.

 

Candidates are expected to display a high level of critical thinking and reasoning skills, identify as high performers, as well as being self-motivating.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Oversee and manage all onsite machining projects from inception to completion.
  • Develop detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets.
  • Coordinate with clients, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Fully support and lead ongoing field service jobs by providing excellence in both delivery accuracy and speed of service, as well as providing guidance, training, and support to a team of on-site In-Situ Machinists.
  • Gather technical information from TKB by accessing technical bulletins and operational / overhaul instruction from product manual.
  • Access parts catalogue to find out parts required that needs to be ordered to support overhauling or repair of the component / equipment.
  • Ensure that all activities on-site are carried out in accordance with the site safety rules and in compliance with the Company's Health and Safety standard ISO 4500112018.
  • Ensure that all work is carried out to ISO 900112015 standard.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
  • Be an integral part of the In-Situ team. Strive to achieve common goals and customer deadlines, whereby working overtime hours is required.
  • Adopt a pleasant, adaptable attitude towards any "ad-hoc" duties that may be required.
  • Manage and allocate resources, including manpower, equipment, and materials, to optimize productivity.
  • Manage on-site tool inventory, maintain/track in-situ machining and measuring tools. Tool coordination and equipment preparation, tracking.
  • Responsible for in-situ equipment maintenance and availability, by utilizing external contractors or suppliers when needed.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including progress reports, inspection records, and timesheets.
  • Provide regular updates to management on project status, challenges, and achievements.
  • Prepare and submit detailed project completion reports according to Wärtsilä and QuantiServ standards.
  • Collect and organize time and expense reports.

 

Main Requirements:

 

  • 8-10 years of job-related experience with on-site machining or in a similar role
  • Proven track record of successfully managing machining projects and leading teams.
  • Good communication skills with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • A proactive individual who is not afraid to get stuck in.
  • Good time management and organizational skills - able to effectively manage a dynamic workload.
  • Able work effectively and efficiently independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong technical knowledge of machining processes, equipment, and materials.
  • Proficiency in using machining software and tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.

Travel Requirements:

 

This position requires a 70% travel commitment, encompassing both domestic and international, including onshore and offshore locations. The role demands adaptability to varying travel demands, with an expectation of extended periods away from the primary work location. Prospective candidates should be prepared to fulfil these travel obligations as an integral aspect of the position's responsibilities.

For applicants that reside in CA/CO/WA, the hourly wage range is $48.00-$55.00.

 

For applicants that reside in NY, the hourly wage range is $46.00-$53.00

 

The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Eligibility to participate in: the discretionary incentive plan assigned to the level of position upon offer of employment; medical, dental and vision coverage, 401(k) plan and flexible spending accounts, subject to plan terms; Company-paid benefits such as life insurance, short- and long-term disability, subject to applicable waiting periods. Paid time off (PTO) is accrued on a per-pay period basis in accordance with tenure in the Company; a new hire can expect 17 days per year. Twelve (12) Company-paid holidays.
