We are now looking for a Technical Expert – Electrical & Automation (E&A) to join our team working for a better future.

 

The position is permanent, and the preferred location is Fort Lauderdale, FL.

 

What You Will Be Doing

As a Technical Expert in Electrical & Automation, you will play a key role in maintaining product quality and implementing solutions to improve engine efficiency across all Wärtsilä products. Your work will directly contribute to lowering customer OPEX through high reliability while maximising business profitability. You will have end-to-end responsibility for all Electrical & Automation projects within GAP agreements, from project planning and sourcing to execution. This includes field commissioning and testing, technical audits and troubleshooting onboard, reporting for internal and customer management, and providing technical support for internal and external stakeholders. You will collaborate closely with customers and internal teams, ensuring technical excellence and contractual compliance.

 

Responsibilities

  • Act as the frontline technical expert, working directly with customers and taking ownership of assigned contracts, ships, and customer relationships.
  • Participate in new Electrical & Automation projects with agreement customers.
  • Manage the SFOC (Specific Fuel Oil Consumption) measuring chain ensuring its reliability
  • Execute technical audits and troubleshooting onboard ships when engine performance, quality issues, or control systems do not meet quality requirements.
  • Monitor non-conformity cost statistics and initiate product improvement cases when automation and electrical component quality falls short.
  • Propose, plan, and execute upgrades to reduce unplanned costs, increase reliability, and achieve fuel consumption or emission reductions.
  • Provide remote Electrical & Automation support for Wärtsilä teams onboard cruise ships.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Marine Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of experience in marine electrical and automation systems, engine performance analysis, and troubleshooting.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of electrical and automation systems in marine applications.
    • Ability to perform technical audits and root cause analysis.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Willingness to travel internationally up to 60% of the time and work onboard ships.
    • Ability to provide remote technical support across time zones.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience:
    • Previous experience with Wärtsilä products and cruise ship operations.
    • Familiarity with emission reduction technologies and fuel optimisation strategies.
  • Skills:
    • Project management experience in upgrade commissioning.

 

Travel Requirements

This role requires both domestic and international travel, with an estimated commitment of approximately 60% (up to a maximum of 100 travel days per year).
