Turbocharger Engineer, 4 Stroke

 

The Wärtsilä PBL team is responsible for a comprehensive, 12-year performance-based agreement that has been signed between Wärtsilä and Carnival Corporation. The agreement includes Wärtsilä’s Dynamic Maintenance Planning (DMP) and Condition Based Maintenance (CBM). Simplified, Wärtsilä will take care of engine maintenance and monitoring, scheduled or not. In addition, Wärtsilä will also be responsible for safely extending overhaul intervals where possible, as they will be closely monitoring the ship’s engines.

 

This position reports to the Field Service Coordinator Team Lead. Candidates are expected to display a high level of critical thinking and reasoning skills, identify as high performers, as well as being self-motivating.

As this is a Workshop / Field Service position, candidates will need to be able to work out of or Ft. Lauderdale, Florida facility. This is not a remote role.

 

What will you be doing?

 

In this position you will be supporting our customers on field services assignments; however, you are expected to perform Workshop activities as well (such as overhauls and repairs) on turbochargers and focus on these responsibilities:

 

  • Perform overhauls and repairs on Turbochargers
  • Interact professionally with customers during work execution
  • Perform internal and external progress status of the assigned work
  • Create the Service Work Reports
  • Ensure that the work is executed according to Wärtsilä QEHS guidelines and site procedures
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment under pressure
  • Willingness and ability to travel (approximately 130 to 180 days a year)
  • Turbocharger troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to read and understand turbocharger diagrams

 

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

  • Relevant technical education or qualifications as a combination of education and experience.
  • Technical experience with practical problem-solving skills.
  • 4+ years’ experience in installation operation, maintenance, and repair of Turbochargers.
  • Highly effective technical communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Interact professionally and deliver solutions to customers during the work execution.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Fluent in English with relevant additional language skills beneficial.
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for Wärtsilä in the USA
  • Interested in traveling 50% of the time.

  • The salary range for US candidates is US$30-39.00 per hour. The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
