Responsabilities:

 

  • Manage on-site machining projects from start to finish, ensuring timely and high-quality execution.
  • Perform workshop tasks such as overhauls, reconditioning, modifications, cleaning, and machining of reciprocating engine components.
  • Collaborate with the workshop team to meet goals and customer deadlines, including occasional overtime.
  • Maintain and track tool inventory, ensuring proper calibration and readiness of machining and measuring equipment.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on plant equipment and complete training for heavy lifting tools (forklift, gantry cranes, turning equipment).
  • Prepare and maintain accurate project documentation, including progress reports, inspection records, timesheets, and expense reports.
  • Assist in preparing detailed project completion reports according to Wärtsilä standards.
  • Adapt to ad-hoc duties as required, ensuring flexibility and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure all on-site activities comply with Wärtsilä’s Health and Safety standards (ISO 45001:2018) and that all work meets ISO 9001:2015 quality standards.

 

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

 

  • A safety-first mindset and commitment to quality.
  • High school diploma or technical certification in machining or mechanical engineering.
  • 2–3 years of experience in on-site machining or similar roles, including line-boring, laser/optical alignment, tool calibration, and preferably in-situ crankshaft machining and portable grinding services (metal stitching is a plus).
  • Proven ability to manage machining projects and lead teams effectively.
  • Proficiency in machining tools, software, and mechanical measuring equipment, with the ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong organizational and time management skills.
  • A proactive attitude and ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent English communication skills (verbal and written); Spanish is a plus.

Travel Requirements

In this role, some domestic travel may be required. While most activities are workshop-based, occasional visits to customer sites or training sessions may occur. Estimated travel: 20%
