Wärtsilä, a SMART technology company, is seeking the ideal candidate to join our fast‑paced, high‑performance team as a Workshop Supervisor in Fort Lauderdale, USA (onsite).
In this role, you will support internal and external customers across multiple time zones.
What you will be doing?
As a Workshop Supervisor, you will oversee the daily operational activities of the Field Shop and Turbo Department. You will supervise a team of seven employees while ensuring safe work practices, efficient job execution, high‑quality standards, and continuous improvement across all workshop operations.
You will act as the primary point of coordination on the workshop floor—supporting workflow management, technical guidance, capacity planning, documentation control, and communication with internal stakeholders.
You will collaborate closely with Technicians, Quality Supervisor, Workshop Manager, and Field Service teams.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily workshop operations for the Field Shop and Turbo Department, ensuring safe, efficient, and high‑quality job execution.
- Assign tasks, lead morning meetings and Toolbox Talks, and ensure technicians have all required technical instructions and documentation.
- Provide technical support as needed and monitor the progress of all work orders throughout the day.
- Ensure quality standards are met, conduct in‑process checks, and minimize rework.
- Manage SWR backlog, ensure timely and accurate documentation, and maintain compliance with required checklists for workshop equipment.
- Maintain workshop cleanliness, equipment condition, and safety standards; escalate issues to the Workshop Manager.
- Manage, organize, and safeguard tools, machines, and workshop resources; plan short‑term capacity and equipment maintenance with the Quality Supervisor.
- Conduct performance evaluations, support employee development, and foster a positive, engaged, and collaborative team culture.
- Motivate the team to achieve productivity and efficiency targets, finding creative solutions to workload challenges (e.g., parts shortages, fluctuating demand).
- Keep workshop leadership informed of operational issues and support cross‑departmental collaboration.
To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:
- Degree in Engineering, Business Management, or a relevant field—or equivalent work experience.
- Proven experience in workshop management, preferably in heavy equipment or related industries.
- Strong leadership and people‑management skills with the ability to motivate and develop diverse teams.
- Excellent problem‑solving, decision‑making, and prioritization abilities.
- Knowledge of workshop safety regulations and industry best practices.
- Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast‑paced, sometimes overwhelming environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- High level of computer literacy.

Travel Requirements
In this role, some domestic travel may be required. While most activities are workshop-based, occasional visits to customer sites or training sessions may occur. Estimated travel: 20%
