In our global team we value, respect, and embrace different opinions and diversity. Safety, environment, and wellbeing are our foundation, and we never compromise them.
The Marine Industry is one of the hardest to abate sectors. For this reason, Decarbonisation of shipping will require Internal Combustion Engines (ICEs) that will operate on Future Fuels for many more years to come. It is now the most fascinating time to conduct R&D on ICEs and contribute to the development of marine engines that will be on ships sailing in 2050 and beyond.
We are therefore looking for an Advanced Fuel Injection Systems, Senior Expert to join Wärtsilä’s 2-Stroke Engines Future Fuels team, on a permanent basis. Location of the function could be in one of Wartsila’s locations, such as in Switzerland (Frauenfeld), Italy (Trieste) or Denmark (Copenhagen), where other members of the team are already based, with flexible remote working options. The function will report to the General Manager, Future Fuels.
Prime focus will be the development of fuel injection systems for use in advanced combustion systems of sustainable fuels, for 2-stroke low-speed marine engines.

- Specify and follow-through the testing of new components, either on test rigs or on test engines
- Lead, cooperate and coordinate projects with external laboratories and research institutions, and consult with Regulatory officials/representatives when needed
Requirements for the position:
- M.Sc or Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
- Experience with high pressure hydraulic/pneumatic and electromechanical systems
- Extensive experience in the development of Fuel Injection Systems
- Experience in using CFD (eg OpenFoam) and 1-D (eg GT-Power) tools
