We are looking for an innovative Development Engineer to become part of Wärtsilä’s 2-Stroke Future Fuels team on a permanent basis. The role is rooted in Switzerland (Frauenfeld), with flexible remote working options. The selected candidate will report directly to the Head of 2-stroke Engine Future Fuels Technology.
Your prime focus will be the development of combustion systems and corresponding fuel injection technologies for Future Fuels, such as (but not limited to) Methanol and Ammonia, for 2-stroke slow-speed marine engines.
Your role and responsibilities
As a Development Engineer / Senior Development Engineer your day-to-day will be centred around:

Defining requirements for future fuel injection systems and technologies, in relation to the combustion system, and collaborating with Technology & Engineering teams for the technology development.

Playing a pivotal role in the evolution of fuel injection and combustion systems of 2-stroke slow-speed marine engines enabling them to operate on alternative fuels.

Running simulations with 1-D and/or 3-D tools (e.g. GT-Suite, OpenFoam), and conducting experiments and measurements on test rigs and test engines.

Coordinating development projects in collaboration with external suppliers and internal customers (such as laboratory test teams and other Expert teams).

Analyzing results, preparing reports and presenting the findings both internally and externally, where applicable.
Requirements for the position

Possession of an MSc or PhD in Engineering, or equivalent (ideally in Mechanical engineering or a similar discipline)

Robust understanding of internal combustion engines (preferably 2-stroke engines).

Excellent understanding of Fluid Mechanics, Mechanical Systems and Thermodynamics.

Prior experience with fuel injection and combustion systems (for 2-stroke and / or 4-stroke engines).

Proficiency in using Simulation tools and conducting Experiments.
