We are excited to announce an opportunity for an enthusiastic In-Situ Specialist to join our skilled In-Situ team in Gothenburg, Sweden. Our team provides specialised, fast, and reliable support, maintenance, and repair services to our valued customers.
The dedicated In-Situ team is equipped with leading technology and expertise, certified to meet IMO requirements. With extensive OEM experience and an unmatched global reach, we are renowned for pushing the boundaries of repair methods. Our innovative approach has even earned class approval on other OEM equipment.
What will you be doing?
As an In-Situ Specialist, you will travel globally to perform hands-on machining activities at our customers' premises, gaining valuable insight into how on-site repairs can significantly impact our customers in times of need. You will precisely machine and rebuild a wide variety of reciprocating engine components following established guidelines and safety protocols. You will oversee and manage all aspects of on-site machining operations, from line boring to crankshaft machining. Your work will not be limited to our products but will extend to all OEM equipment and variations.
Your responsibilities for the role include, but are not limited to:
- Overseeing, participating in, and managing all on-site machining projects from inspection to completion.
- Ensuring all on-site activities adhere to safety rules, ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health and Safety standard, and ISO 9001:2015 Quality standard.
- Conducting regular performance evaluations and providing constructive feedback.
- Being an integral part of the In-Situ team, striving to achieve common goals and customer deadlines, including working overtime and collaborating with colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
- Adopting a pleasant, adaptable attitude towards any "ad-hoc" duties that may be required.
- Supporting and managing on-site tool inventory, including maintaining and tracking in-situ machining and measuring tools.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including progress reports, inspection records, and timesheets.
- Assisting with the preparation and submission of detailed project completion reports according to Wärtsilä standards.
- Collecting and organising time and expense reports.
Travel requirements:
This position requires a minimum of 60% travel, both domestically and internationally, including onshore and offshore locations as needed. The role demands adaptability to varying travel requirements, with extended periods away from the primary work location. A typical assignment involves traveling on short notice, with stays ranging from a few days to about two weeks. Normally, assignments are completed in pairs, but for certain services, solo travel is required. Therefore, we seek candidates with a strong Field Service mindset, who are flexible and ready to travel.
The following will enable you to succeed in this role:
- 2-3 years of job-related experience with on-site machining or in a similar role, including:
- Line-boring using boring bars.
- Use of laser and optical alignment equipment.
- Use of mechanical measuring equipment.
- Tool calibration and verification.
- Metal stitching experience.
- In-situ machining using crankshaft machining tools (preferred).
- Performing grinding services using portable grinding machines.
- Proficiency in using machining software and tools.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
- Valid driver's licence B.
- Strong English language skills, both written and spoken.
- Willingness and flexibility to travel.
In addition, the ideal candidate has:
- The ability to lead and mentor a team of skilled machinists to ensure the successful completion of projects within specified timelines and quality standards.
- Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong practical problem-solving skills and a solution-oriented mindset, with the ability to adapt when faced with challenges.
- A self-driven and proactive approach to work.
- A great eye for detail.
- A service-oriented approach and a drive to provide the best possible customer experience.
