Due to increasing demand, we are looking for 2-Stroke Field Service Engineers, Mechanical to strengthen our skilled 2-Stroke Field Service team. The roles are offered as permanent contracts and will be based in Gdansk, Poland.

 

In this exciting role, you will have the opportunity to work internationally, traveling the world for approximately 150 – 200 days per year. Thus, we hope that you are eager to travel and possess a strong field service mindset. When you are not traveling, you will have the flexibility to work partially remotely, in accordance with our hybrid work model.

 

 

What will you be doing?

 

As a Field Service Engineer in the 2-Stroke Field Service team, your daily work will revolve around performing Field Service activities on marine installations with Wärtsilä 2-stroke engines and equipment. You will be providing our customers with technical expertise and actively working towards enabling the best possible service experience while ensuring adherence to Wärtsilä QEHS guidelines, regulations, site procedures, and policies.

 

For this versatile role, we are looking for candidates who know their way around a 2-stroke engine and have experience with working in Field Service. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical skills, a solid understanding of technical documentation, and the ability to generate technical reports. You are at an advantage with a customer-focused approach, a service-oriented mindset, and enthusiasm to expand your professional knowledge. To seamlessly support our customers, fluency in Polish and proficiency in English are essential.

 

 

Your responsibilities for the role include, but are not limited to: 

 

  • Carry out mechanical jobs on board vessels with 2-stroke engines from Wärtsilä, Sulzer, and WinGD brands. Occasionally supervise or troubleshoot these engines with support from Technical Service teams.
  • Perform Field Service activities related to the installation of Wärtsilä Service Products (modernisation, retrofit packages) for 2-stroke diesel engines.
  • Perform mainly mechanical but occasionally also electrical and automation tasks on engines and during the installation of Wärtsilä Service Products.
  • Perform technical assessments, pre-inspections, and final commissioning of installations upon request and in adherence to Wärtsilä guidelines and technical, safety, and quality procedures.
  • Collaborate on-site with teammates and stakeholders (yards, crews) to manage service activities during execution.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction through positive interactions and efficient collaboration with various teams during on-site service work.
  • Actively communicate with Field Service and Technical Service back-office teams during work execution.
  • Provide internal and external reports on work progress, updates, and daily activities in line with Wärtsilä standards.
  • Prepare final Service Work reports, including time and expense reports, as per Wärtsilä policy, and interact with administrative personnel as needed.
  • Proactively consult, advise, and promote Wärtsilä solutions and products to customers.

 

 

The below will enable you to succeed in this role:

 

  • BSc or MSc in Engineering or a similar relevant technical educational background.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in service work involving the installation of mechanical, electrical, and/or auxiliary equipment (primarily engines).
  • Deep understanding of the principles of operation of 2-stroke engines.
  • Ability to interpret technical instructions, drawings, and schematic diagrams (e.g., pneumatic and electrical systems).
  • Ability to undertake mechanical and electrical troubleshooting tasks on engines, auxiliary systems, and other service products.
  • Experience in reporting and the ability to generate technical reports.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and other relevant reporting tools.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 80% of the working time.
  • Fluency in Polish and strong English language skills, both written and spoken.
