Senior Service Mechanic

We are looking for a Senior Service Mechanic 2-Stroke to join our highly motivated and efficient Services team.  

 

The location for this position is Gdansk, Poland

 

 

Your role and responsibilities   

 

In this position, you will be executing mechanical Field Service activities in adherence with Wärtsilä guidelines, technical instructions and site procedures, ensuring customer satisfaction and providing excellent quality of the job done. 

 

As a Senior Service Mechanic 2-Stroke, will have opportunity to work in international environment, travel within Europe or over the world for various service jobs for approximately 80 % of the working time (up to 200 days per year). Therefore, we are looking for candidates who are ready and willing to travel, who possess a strong Field Service mindset and are open for challenges.

 

As a Senior Service Mechanic 2-Stroke you will focus on these responsibilities:  

 

  • Carrying out mechanical jobs on board vessels, working with 2-stroke engines of Wärtsilä, Sulzer, and WinGD brands. Occasionally performing supervisory or troubleshooting activities on these 2-stroke main engines with the support of Technical Service teams. 
  • Performing Field Service activities related to the installation of Wärtsilä Service Products (modernization, retrofit packages) designed for 2-stroke diesel engines in service. 
  • Conducting primarily mechanical work, but also electrical and automation-related tasks, both on engines and during the installation of Wärtsilä Service Products. 
  • Upon request, performing technical assessments of installations, conducting pre-inspections, and carrying out final commissioning of installed products, in accordance with Wärtsilä guidelines and technical, safety, and quality procedures. 
  • Collaborating on-site with teammates and stakeholders (yards, crews) to manage service activities during work execution. 
  • Ensuring customer satisfaction through positive interactions with customers and efficient collaboration with different teams during service work on-site. 
  • Actively interacting and communicating with Field Service and Technical Service back-office teams during work execution. 
  • Providing internal and external reports on work progress, updates, and daily reports for assigned tasks, in accordance with Wärtsilä standards. 
  • Preparing final Service Work reports along with time and expense reports in accordance with Wärtsilä policy and interacting with administrative personnel as needed. 
  • Proactively consulting, advising, and promoting available Wärtsilä solutions and products to customers. 

 

To be successful in this role, we expect you have: 

 

  • Relevant technical educational background. 
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in service work on installations of mechanical, electrical, and/or auxiliary equipment (mainly engines). 
  • Deep understanding of the principles of operation of 2-stroke engines. 
  • Good understanding of technical instructions, drawings, and schematic diagrams (e.g., pneumatic and electrical systems). 
  • Awareness, readiness, and ability to undertake mechanical and electrical troubleshooting tasks on engines, auxiliary systems, and our service products. 
  • Experience working with Wärtsilä products will be considered as an advantage. 
  • Experience with reporting and the ability to generate reports. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office and other relevant reporting tools. 
  • Fluent in Polish with strong English language skills, both written and verbal. 
  • Willingness to travel for approximately 80 % of the working time. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work in a multicultural environment and seamlessly collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Passion for learning and willingness to enhance knowledge to service our engines and Wärtsilä retrofit products designed for 2-stroke engines in operation.
