We are seeking a passionate Service Engineer Mechanical to become a vital part of our highly motivated Services team in Gdansk, Poland.

Your role and responsibilities
As a Service Engineer Mechanical in our dynamic Field Service team, you will execute mechanical Field Service activities with precision, adhering to Wärtsilä guidelines, technical instructions, and site procedures. Your expertise will ensure customer satisfaction and deliver exceptional quality in every job you undertake.
In this role, you will have the exciting opportunity to work in an international environment, traveling within Europe and around the world for various service jobs approximately 80% of the time (up to 200 days per year). We are seeking candidates who are enthusiastic about travel, possess a strong Field Service mindset, and are eager to embrace new challenges.
As a Service Engineer Mechanical, you will focus on these responsibilities:
- Execute mechanical Field Service activities following Wärtsilä guidelines, technical instructions, and site procedures.
- Perform mechanical jobs on board vessels, focusing on 2-stroke engines of Wärtsilä/Sulzer/WinGD brand.
- Occasionally supervise or troubleshoot 2-stroke main engines with support from Technical Service teams.
- Install Wärtsilä Service Products (modernization, retrofit packages) for 2-stroke diesel engines.
- Conduct mechanical, electrical, and automation-related tasks during installations.
- Perform technical assessments, pre-inspections, and final commissioning of installed products.
- Collaborate on-site with teammates and stakeholders to manage service activities.
- Interacting and communicating actively with Field Service and Technical Service back-office during work execution.
- Ensure customer satisfaction through positive interactions and efficient teamwork.
- Communicate actively with Field Service and Technical Service back-office teams.
- Provide internal and external reports on work progress and updates.
- Prepare final Service Work reports and time/expense reports.
- Consult, advise, and promote Wärtsilä solutions and products to customers.
Requirements for the position
- B. Sc. or M. Sc. in Engineering or similar relevant technical educational background.
- At least 3 years of experience in service work on mechanical, electrical, and/or auxiliary equipment (mainly engines).
- A deep understanding of 2-stroke engine principles.
- Proficiency in reading technical instructions, drawings, and schematic diagrams (e.g. pneumatic, electrical systems).
- Ability to undertake mechanical and electrical troubleshooting tasks.
- Experience with Wärtsilä products will be considered an advantage.
- Strong reporting skills and proficiency in MS Office and relevant tools.
- Fluency in Polish and strong English language skills, both written and verbal.
- Willingness to travel extensively.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work in a multicultural environment.
- A passion for learning and enhancing knowledge to service our engines and Wärtsilä retrofit products aimed for 2-stroke engines in operation.
